I love how those LABCes go "Coward! You always run" to my Sabre. Some people just don't understand the survival RP. And I bet they are those traders, who were too stuborn to comply to demands, going around takng revenge on criminals.
Indeed, also the height of irony, calling someone a coward for running, when they're taking a Capital Ship to a snub fight... too much of a coward to use an equally matched ship?

Just as 90% of traders don't even write back.
Do not get me started Snak3, please Bro. What I am getting at, is that we play in a universe that has ships and bases, with populations and needs. I have yet to have a pirate encounter where a pirate does something other than charge you credits. Not one..... Hey trader, Ill let ya slide and keep your ship, but for the next two hours you work for me.....or a....Hey Trader, looks like you have good papers with the (Insert your unlawful faction of choice), you haul some H fuel for us and we let you live...Or a, Hey trader, I got 3500 units of Luxgoods sitting here, take them sell them and we split the profit, you stiff me and I kill you next time.
Instead the usual is this.....CD...CD...CD..."Stop...Halt...Stop"...fire guns fire guns fire guns nova torp....and then...."2 mill or I kill you."
You can't expect that from pirates oZone, pirate RP isn't meant to be that complex.
Plus, do you really think traders would bother to comply with a time consuming demand like the onesyyou mentioned?
Yea yea....its gone where I thought it would....."Just cause its not the RP you expected bla bla bla"....
Ya know Snak3 you are right....time to stop rping with pirates all together, cause expecting something other than having to pay from a pirate is as you have pointed out futile.

Not all pirates demand credits - rarer now but I have made the trader say something in system chat about the LN scum or some such thing - much more fun and it fosters rp as on at least one occasion after changing charas I saw the same trader 10min later still rping his way out of the system message I got him to say. There's so much scope for fun things to do.
Obviously I don't really need tons of money anymore, having more than a dozen billion credits in armors alone...
So I flew a small trader of mine for quite a while just for the fun of it. Jump Gates only. Lanes when there are lanes to where I want to go. No specific route, searching connections every time I'm on course to the next base.
Then I did the same with my big trader. Because I wanted to see what it is like to fly that certain faction.
I flew only partially for the money. Because when I meet a pirate that cares only about the money and not about the RP, then of course it is unpleasent if he also asks for a lot of it.
Let's go back to .85 first. Back then piracy wasn't that bad. Lots of pirates rp'd still, and you'd get pirated for .5 mio to 5 mio pretty much. Even a miner in the fields would only get pirated for 2 mio mostly. Only a certain group of people, who then lead a certain faction which in the end lost its officialty and who's leader was thrown out of Discovery for good reasons turned that and started to abuse an ID to pirate for "30 mio" or "drop all cargo" right at the sellpoint for that ore. Even the gold ore traders caught in Cali rarely had to pay more than 5 mio, and only lost their freight because they often tried to run or call for backup. But since this certain group piracy has gone down the drain. Rarely do you see any RP at all, mostly it's just the "STOP! 5 mio!" line and a gunboat pulse hitting your shields half a second later.
And that's exactly what happened to my "standard freight" transport twice the last day I traded with it. Pirate ID, so no iRP reason for a special kind of hate, very limited RP...
I don't wonder why the server is losing population, because the new guys have always been traders at first. Not everyone can stand the unfriendly behaviour people show on this server. The carelessness the pirate or whatever other character shows about the other person.
I was damn lucky on the two piracy attempts I run into. One I got away because a lawful showed up - it was a fighter anyway, so I'd probably have made it no matter what - and the other I got away because I took a 180° turn and jumped back the way I came, cruised to the lane and quick docked successfully. And yes, I tried to talk the guy out of his demand. Considering that I went just 1 lane and 1 JG from where I bought the freight I was carrying, I wouldn't have lost much anyway, but that's not the point. Anyway, I logged off after that. Sold the freight back and logged off. Would he have demanded 2 mio I'd have been a bit grumpy, but I'd have continued to fly. This way the server lost activity, because what fun is it, if every pirate encounter ends up like this?
And yes, I know all the "don't fly alone", "metagame the crap out of everything and go around the pirates" ... I can do that. But I seriously don't see the point in avoiding everyone in a multiplayer - especially one which was said to be about RP... And about the "don't fly alone" - new players mostly fly alone. I like to put myself in that role sometimes to see what it is like. Because I'm not above them. Unlike some other idiots here feel that they are above everyone else. Because they've been around longer, because "space is dangerous", because they are shitheads, who knows.
Also trading alone was once a lot of fun. It's calming and yet again like a gamble. But now 95% of all pirates ... of all players? ... you meet are the annoying kind.
I don't even get what the point of those pirates is, except for ruining someone else's game experience. Because you won't be making any decent profit no matter if you demand 500k or 5 mio. There are just too few traders around anymore, for obvious reasons. So yeah, I don't wonder about the silent traders anymore, there's just no point in talking most of the time...

If you ever need a good charity to drop some cash in, I'm always at your service (the charity being me of course) as I'm ALWAYS broke
Seriously though, I think these "pirates suck" and "traders suck" threads only hurt things in the long run, especially for new players that may come here and read them all, I think it could drive them away.
Instead rather, what about a thread that traders and pirates can both post good encounters with each other in? That way traders/pirates that don't know how to properly handle the RP can look at the thread and see what is expected or what could happen with a good RP encounter between them?
Players could post the chat log and or screen shots in it. I know something like that would have helped me allot when I first started here?
