People don't care about inRP fleet numbers. Yes, Gallic fleet was made OP on purpose to justify them steamrolling both Kusari and Bretonia fleets at once from entire TAUs and then being able to oppose LN and Bretonia fleets on Leeds battle. On the other hand Bretonia was designed to be badly outnumbered and sitting in deep defense. So that's the plan - good or not, I don't know - but for me Kusari vs Bretonia war was a way better before Gallia's interruption.
On topic: I, simply, can't say that blowing up the gates is a good way to go (no matter how good and smart the plan looks). Doing changes to the vanilla system layout already (for many times) has proven to be a bad decision.
Yes, that's correct - decimation means they lost 1\10. However there is completely different representation of that lose in the lore - it makes a vision that the fleet was almost completely scattered.
Bretonia/Liberty sabotage the gates of Endimbur and Tau 31 with a virus. Both gates still operational and with no changes for the players, but in the roll need to reboot after a few jumps. Making very slow to move a large fleet in or out from Leeds trapping the bulk of the Galic forces.
All the consecuences and problems of allow this as precedent for the use of the kind of sabotage in other gates is good material for more rumors and news. People scare calling this the first of a new kind of wepons, tecnicals trying to repair the gates, Argeria concerned for not seen this kind of sabotage coming, etc. For aboid this of course the only thing needed is to upgrate the firewalls of the gates or something like that.

Come on! Spies exist for a reason.

I will not insist
yes, that's the way Freelancer vanilla lore was set up, and Disco continued on that. Houses living for hundreds of years with a gun pointed at their head and being unable and/or unwilling to do anything about that. A single corporation that controls the whole insurance market and good part of financial flows for hundreds of years, with 0 competition, simply cause original DA were too lazy to even mention non-NPC-presented corporations. A bunch of guerillas utterly annihilating strongest military of the time. A trade that continues even during the times of all-out war between Houses. A House caring about it's debt to another House while waging a full scale war with it.
Zoners and certain pirates conjuring capfleets out of vacuum of space, while somehow supporting population, claimed in hundreds of thousands, on their space stations in the middle of nowhere, basically, and fighting 2 front wars at same time. Gallia putting helluva ton of resources into various super-expensive to build, support and maintain space colonies while having a bunch of planets with less than several hundred million population. The list goes on.
It's a parallel universe in terms of sense and logic, you better stay out of that part of Disco's "roleplay" if you plan to keep your sanity.
Actualy now is more intresting sabotage this gates. First Bretonia and/or Liberty do the sabotage and in the next update after that Galia fix the problem and everybody loses their minds.

If Bretonia ever managed to disable the jump gate to Edinburgh, which is in Leeds, Gallic ships would only be able to come trough Tau-31, which would be turned into a bottleneck. And you know of the Outcasts and the Colonials, and about their love for the Taus. Besides that, there is a jump hole in Newcastle leading there. I won't even talk about what could happen if the Shogun returned to power.
Disabling a whole jump gate probably isn't an easy task, and I'd like to know what should be used for it, how long would it last, etc... If it is possible to destroy it in a certain period of time, this is the plan:
The jump gate to Edinburgh is not guarded by any NPC stations, and NPC patrols seem to be rarer around it than around other objects in Leeds. That doesn't only mean that Leeds is weak there, but also that Gallia doesn't expect an attack at Edinburgh jump gate. The trade lane separating it from planet Leeds, and the nearest Gallic fleet, has been cut. The jump hole to New London is fairly close. Magellan, a Libertonian springboard, isn't far either. If Liberty manages to pull off a diversion at planet Leeds, Bretonia from Dundee in Edinburgh, and disrupt what has left of the mentioned lane with a few fighters, they might be able to place a small deconstructive fleet near the gate, which will do what deconstructive fleets are meant to do.
Nether Bretonia, nor Liberty, should use large fleets, since all that don't manage to run away might be lost.
Is it possible? Fun? Or just another one of those funny ideas you get at 11:12pm, after a difficult day?
EisenSeele summed it up well enough. I don't see the Gallics leaving their primary supply line undefended to be likely, unless they're attacking New London/Magellan in full force. That carries the implication that if Liberty/Bretonia divert fleets to backstab, as it were....they would also lose a hella lot of ground where-ever the Gallic attack is. Consider it a trade-off.
You are thinking big. Big fleets moves, big fights... Galia can't be defeated with that and even if they gonna win the war the rest of siruis deserves do something. Besides for something exist the cloaks or the EMP already used by Kusary when they invade Leeds.
The real question here is if try to cut Galia's suply lines (even if this doesn't is achived completly) by doing somethig to the gates or not. How this is done is independent, could be something elegant like a virus or could something brute like the kamikaze ship than I propose. There are many ways, all with their own consecuences and details.
