No, but battleships would be different for sure. The logic is simple - if the battleships will be as effective as some want the game will be about getting one because other ships are obsolete to it.
If that is the case, reduce their cost to an appropriate amount.

Any capital ship's problem is that it can't be killed by single snub no matter the skill. Cheaper caps will just make a lot of people fly them exclusively which is not really great because we have an RP server here, you know, so hordes of battleships are kinda ruining the immersion.

Battleship balance will always be such that smaller ships can avoid interactions with them.
Actually, that's more or less how it is for most interactions between classes.
Fixing battleships so they're not useless would not be rendering other ships obsolete, so much as making an obsolete ship not useless.

Though, finding a solution is rather tricky.
I mean, their last solution made sense - it was to set it so that the smaller ship doing the ramming got massively damaged, but it led to certain individuals parking their caps at the exit ports of the trade lanes to rack up idle bluemsgs.
