2. I think Gallia is fine. I think half the people who post here don't play, so see #1.
3. More mini-updates, and not 6 months apart, for example people were really psyched about playing that Firefly model that Swallow made.. Now people have probably forgot about it. If a good idea or model is made, implement it now. If an error was made in last update, make a mini update to fix it now instead of making people wait 6 months to have there ship fixed.
There is nothing wrong with having an update every few weeks, even if its only to fix an error or add a ship. If anything, it shows that Disco is actively being developed.
4. Players, stop attacking the dev team, they do this for free and it must be truly disheartening to be attacked every time they have spent so many hours making an idea.
5. Dev team, listen to the player base. If you make a poll and it clearly shows people are not in favor of a change you want to make, don't implement it anyway. (ie Zoner change)
6. Official Factions: Remove inactive leaders, seriously. Nothing kills a faction like an inactive leader. Maybe take a look at your promotion system, there's not 200+ online anymore so needing as much to get promoted as you did back then may not make sense anymore. Don't be afraid of change, change can be a good thing instead of living in the past. Easier promotions at least for the first few ranks is a good incentive for new players.
7. More help and encouragement for new players, but I'm not sure how.
8. Be mindful of what you post on the forums, ask yourself how you would feel as a new player if you read what you are about to post. Does it demean Disco? Does it seem hateful? Is it helpful at all? That sort of thing. I think one of the problems is the negativity here.
9. Most important of all, log in and play the game!!!!! We don't need Forum Warriors we need players!
Okay, next idea - lets fuse some mini-events.
Randomly or scheduled, in different parts of space. Something like daily event, with barely no idea, a simple goal for main sides and welcomed third-parties. For the sake of fight and probable RP background.
One more thing.. for the dev team, Don't over react! here is an example... Scrap mining..
It was deemed that scrap mining was OP (and it was) so rather then simply fix/adjust it, it was nerfed to uselessness, and it still is. I was scrapping all the time, I cant tell you how many junkers "vanished" after that change, Id bet 20+ at least. For good or just on other ships, who knows... Drastic changes like that cost players.. just sayin..
but what if i'm too busy playing other, far better games and having way more fun than i would trying to stop BAF/Judges & co. (because there's no distinction anymore ) from collecting blues on an indie GRN alt to post in their message dump?
seems like some people might actually prefer the low pop ((((((((((((:
Discovery is a game from 2008/2009 that hasn't progressed in any worthy way since then. The plot is still crap, the aesthetics are still the same blurry low-res crap that only looks passable if you tell your graphics card to make everything extra shiny. Paranoia about hackers has wrecked any sense of confidence the people who run this place have. The development team has no sense of direction or any leader to give them a sense of direction.
Making the mod better at this point is impossible. Saving it, in the falling-from-grace sense, would be done by closing it down.
Savas, Omicega, please leave the thread. We're trying to brainstorm; I'm sorry if you guys no longer see the merit in Disco, but some of us still believe in it. Go carry on with those lives and other great games you keep talking about before I point out the irony of you sitting on the forum of a game you evidently hate.
Alex: valid point, however some of us can't play right now because they need to cook dinner and do laundry. Which is why I'm trying to discuss a better future.
-Edit- Oh, goodness. Kaz, I like you kid, I really do. But if you don't have anything constructive to say, don't say it.
