Not trying to toot my own horn here, for starters.
I like to be very generous with my money....but I prefer not to give it away for free. I am, however, more than happy to give new players the opportunities to work for it.
I try to hire escorts whenever possible (even if I know they're noobs and have no chance of actually protecting my ship against a pirate), or use them as scouts.
I've made my PoB open dock to nearly all lawfuls (except Gallia) and Quasi-lawfuls, and I accept a high amount of goods so that folks are interested in trading. I also try to tech players what is good to bring and where to get it.
The best way to help noobs feel welcome is to TEACH them how to play the game and help them EARN money. Not to arbitrarily throw money at them and hope that they stop pestering you.
I still try to fly and fight, trade and play with small Vessles.
CSF, at the most a 3,5 Transport. And I´d love to NOT NEED a Bomber.
Oh well, ok... I love my Osprey, flown as my first Chara and still available, if not very active. Bt it´s no Bomber...
even if it´s fun to chase of an equaly unexperienced Pirate.
Why ?
Because as a whole, I habe met interesting Players, had very nice RPG flights - they even payed out -
but as soon as more than 3 players came together and there was a Faction Tag involved it was Power / faster / gogogo...
and at least my Laptop isn´t fast enough to support FL and TS together.
If you realy want to make a good impression to a Newb like me :
DON´t give me money.
Give me Tips, show me good claims and routes. Take the time and explain the unspoken rules and the stories behind them.
And if you still want to show of those mean big ships :
someone´s bound to take a shot at me or my next station, and I´ll be happy to call ?!
But please :
Even if you know how to maximise profit per time ...
remember it sometimes is pure fun NOT to fly a big ship or the optimized Transport.

More than half of this entire thread is incredibly sad. Here's what I do. I give advice if people ask for it. If people ask for money, I say no and stop talking to them. That's it. I don't cry or post about it on the forums, I get on with me and mine. I'm not going to work myself up over what some random guy does or says. I don't give a damn if they end up getting bored and quitting or if they end up joining some faction or if they turn in to silent traders. Chances are they would have gone down that route with or without my help. As far as I'm concerned, if they can't play a video game without someone holding their hand and giving them top tier stuff on a silver platter, they shouldn't play the damn game. I'm all for offering advice but at the end of the day I'm not Ghandi and I honestly couldn't care less.
I didn't give money.
I gave information. It involved the best trade routes and the bases where good trade ships can be bought. I also told them that artifacts were fantastic and Cardamine was the tool of the devil (surprised?). Where to buy artifacts and how many creds you could make in one run. I may have even run interference for some....
Giving credits may make you feel very charitable but it just generally leads to people begging/expecting it. Part of the magic for me, the thing that kept me here so long was the discovery part of Disco. I always aimed to give the newer folk the same experience of wonder and awe that I had, rather than hand it to them on a plate. Make them feel attached to their character. Experience the new with that character. The one they always associate themselves with.

How can these 57 posts be filled with any content, considering that the topic is pointless?
If a newbie likes to buy himself a battleship, let him. He'll soon enough find out that it's not the best ship and be sorry about the waste.
Myself, I never bothered buying anything larger than gunboats for years, no matter the several billions I had. And I was a noob once, too. So where is the problem? A restriction on caps won't work. Making them more expensive could be a thing, but then people would just trade longer to obtain them.
Yeah.
The point of the thread was missed so hard it now is threatening to upstage Voyager.
Throw it in the bin with the rest of them.

PSA: If you have been having stutter/FPS lag on Disco where it does not run as smoothly as other games, please look at the fix here: https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthrea...pid2306502

I wanted to make a thread in flood with something along the lines of "Remember when you were new?" but this is sort of sad.
Come on, brainstorm time. Best way to tell new players that caps are not the ''best ship'' or ''goal'' for Disco.
Go.
I tell them:
BS is not worth buying it. [give random reasons here]
But: I know you will buy one anyway.
Therefore: remember to have enough money to buy a CAU6 with it, or you will be frustrated. And: go for a Rheinland or Liberty BS because there are regular fights.
It seems that some mistakes just have to be made by everybody.
