What are we balancing the mod against. Or more specifically, who?

Well, a lot of balancing issues can be approached theoretically. A lot of 'problematic' imbalanced ships simply have nothing but strengths, with no significant statistical weaknesses.

An example would be the Nyx. I don't know if it's been changed recently, but it used to be on the top-tier of agility, with a very sleek model, a medium-sized powerplant, tightly-placed weapons and the same amount of armor as a Guardian (which I would consider average or slightly above average). No real weaknesses to speak of.

All this can be seen by comparing models, handling stats, armor, bot/bat counts, and so forth. On top of that it is/was also quite apparent in the actual game.

During the last massfight at Norfolk I got a bit concerned about balance, and was about to get a bit of research done, but Spazzy was first with the thread >_<

I feel like the VHFs are seriously behind the 8-ball now, they're supposed to be good at taking out snubcraft, but they seriously aren't. I was struggling to take 25% of a Blarghest's hull and this was just impossible with these guns. I think fighters are really unequipped to fight other fighters. During this fight all of the snubs were destroyed by Rogue Dessie. In my view the fact, that most of the ships have so much armor because of the goddamn armor upgrades leaves too much room for error.

Also this Rogue Dessie destroyed 2 Navy Dreadnoughts.

I was struggling to take 25% of a Blarghest's hull and this was just impossible with these guns.

Whelp. In a fighter? The Barghest is a slow and fat heavy bomber. The only thing that should be limiting your damage output is your power core and weapon efficiency.

Against such slow and impossible to miss targets, the most efficient weapons (class 7s) along with a large core (which I think the current Guardian has) will get you the quickest results (in the form of a blue message).

From my short time in the balance chat i can tell you that it works in the favor of the one who types fastest, has the most sophisms, logical fallacies and can be the bigger douchebag in any situation. Kind of like any other discussion on this forum, when i think of it. I left when i found an actual balance problem and realized it would be drowned in countless lines of different versions of veiled "you're stupid/retarded" messages, like all the other issues i tried to bring into discussion.

I advise you turn to other hobbies, this mod is for the elite that has the perfect skills. The rest of us should, whelp, leave them have fun with themselves.

I believe the balancing is currently based on feedbacks from community in some interesting way where the afford is being sent towards fixing the most, cumulatively whined about, things which gets the most noise despite the fact if it really needs a change or not.

Minus of such approach is clear - the vise ideas which is not yelled right into the ears loud enough gets less attention then the things that are being screamed around, especially by people who (CLICHE HERE ->) was not around for enough time to judge but loud enough to be heard.

The plus is that it takes less effort to determine what to do for devs - so they can just fix that they are screamed to be fixing.

That's just my subjective opinion tho.

Example part - average Joe for the rescue again.

So we have a faction A and faction B which are hostile to each others and have encounters on regular basis. A and B have 3 players in each and fights are usually fair - 3 v 3. But faction A have 3 average Joe players and faction B have 3 Pr0 l33t pvpers and because of that faction A constantly loose fights to faction B. The tech is currently well balanced so it's just a skill which makes the difference but faction A begins to grow sure in believe that faction B wins because their tech is OP and starts yelling around for the buff of A tech or B tech nerf. If admins do hear that though the concept I mentioned (faction B just ignores the fuzz because they don't particularly care) the B tech gets a nerf in next update. So the skill start to compensate for crap tech but that can't go forever and B faction team just moves to different faction C. B faction slots is empty for some time and then some group of another 3 average Joes takes the spot. But they find that this faction tech is pure bull to fly because they can't compensate for crap tech with skill and simply draw away their attention from the faction. Result: faction B is destroyed - no one wants to play that faction. The problem is that no one here to whine loud enough about that B faction's tech for it to be fixed. So the problem is not addressed in the future and stagnate.

I think we shouldn't balance too much. Wasn't that, in Vanilia lore, that Rheinland battleships are the most superior vessels in the Sirius (let's leave Gallia for a moment)? Wasn't that, like the Tiger vs Sherman, Liberty had to put at least two battleships to make it even to Rheinland one?

Cap balance is what never existed in mod, and honestly in whole game, and it's way too complicated, probably, because game itself is aimed to fighters, but not capital ships.
