Of course it doesn't - but that's the way it's represented in NPC vessels, and that's the standard I sometimes mimic by carrying crew. Merely having them there has made some great RP encounters in the past, too, so I don't see an issue.

NPC ships dont carry more than 200 spaceship crew. Nothing would restrict the average player to carry more than that. And is there why suggestion comes.
Oh no, I wasn't saying that - I meant that they frequently carry 20-40 depending on the ship, which with these additions would mean 100-200 units of space.
But this is all besides the point, regardless of how I play I think this would be a good change. That's all I was really wanting to say in the first place.
I recognise it's a tiny grave dig, but there's another point to be made besides "how'd you fit those 20 people into the back of your starflea" that supports the implementation of such a change.
I just offloaded over 3,700 passengers to Freeport 11 in Omicron Delta (for quite a profit).
It's population prior to my arrival was a mere 690.
They're going to have some serious overcrowding issues.
