Disclaimer: This is not a Rheinland Cruiser/Scylla nerf thread.
The Rheinland Military Cruiser, the LSC's main opponent, is a heavy cruiser. It has 11 turrets, is smaller than the LSC from the top, and a tad wider from the sides. Heavier core, hull, and good size make it top tier.
The Scylla is pretty much the same case, but with 12 turrets instead.
Now, the Liberty Siege Cruiser has a light powercore, is larger than both the Scylla and the Rheinland Cruiser, and is almost the length of the LABC and is about as wide/tall. It has 2 heavy turrets and a Light Mortar copy with 4k range for a forward gun that cannot actually move. It has light cruiser armor and can turn reasonably fast, but it's still fairly large.
When trying to attack other cruisers, it is outgunned and outarmored by it's main competitors. Just plain and simple. It turns faster, sure, but it's lack of firepower really down it and that FWG isn't going to be turned onto a faster moving target.
So, that leaves it in the tiny niche that is turtle hunting. The battleships it faces, the Turtle and the Valor, are huge. You can't miss them with the FG. And this is the "role" that it gets to fill. But why use the LSC when the LABC is only somewhat bigger but with 2 battleship primaries and 4 cruiser heavies? It can repeatedly fire two mortars and deal way more DPS than the LSC can at range and still hold it's own when another, better cruiser comes rolling in. The Dread is an even better choice for anti-BS action because it's one of the best battleships in the mod, right up there with the Valor and Kusari Battleship.
The Liberty Siege Cruiser, for it's size, does not have the proper powercore and weapon count to be used effectively in combat when there are much better choices like the Liberty Dreadnought and Liberty Assault Battlecruiser available.
I believe LSC would become either outdated and replaced with battlecruiser by Liberty Navy - or there would be MK II.
However, I think LSC would be just replaced (in role) with battlecruiser and LSC would end up as light patrol vessels. Why build LSC while you can build a new battlecruiser, in fact?
Or change LSC and replace siege cannon with something like a cutting laser or ion cannon (something like Zapper, but WAY more powerful). I would like an idea for a such weapon, very slow-firing, but possibly would inflict major damage on the big vessels having 3k of range with instant hit - and would be forced to be escorted due to one shot taking, like 3/4 of energy core. You know, like a real artillery that tends to be behind first lines.

I like the idea in theory, but in practice having anything that moves slowly and kills your powercore isn't going to work against anything. Even turtles can dodge siege projectiles if they're fired far away enough.
And as it stands, the LSC is used as an anti-capital vessel in the Navy, and is (in roleplay) very competent in that regard. (Remember in default Freelancer, when during the escape from Unity, Walker (in his LSC) takes down the Unity in only a few shots?) But as of right now, the LSC can't be used in this regard because of how large it is and the relative uselessness of its primary weaponry. A double-pulse siege cruiser can't even take the shields off of a battleship without draining its power core, and thus is only really viable in groups with other capital ships (and even then, any other cap would be better).

You got me very wrong. I didn't say about projectiles. You know how Zapper works, don't you? Zapper has the INSTANT damage on the ship in fact, not sure about the range of it though (making it 3-K instead of 500, also, a bit thicker). I'm talking here about LASER BASED WEAPONRY that have almost instant hit on other ship. Not about plasma/photon based weaponry we mainly got.
As I said before, think of Ion Cannon Frigates from Homeworld.
