If I was in such a situation, playing a pirate, I would just chase the trader till the wall and see him explode rather than cutting off the chase, letting him escape and fueling his irony with the essence of a victory of sorts.
Wanna be a douche? Well, I could also act along with you.

That's what I'm saying, it takes 2 to tango. If you stop chasing the trader and he feels safe, he would stop running towards the wall. But if you insist on chasing the trader, he will keep on running in the direction where he feels the safest - and that direction would be the only path that puts the most distance between him and you - more than often the system wall. Are you so daft that you think he would not turn towards the nearest station if he thought he had a chance of survival doing that.
Its not a matter of douchery, but (and I'll repeat for the idiots that ignore this) A BATTLE OF WILL. He has the will to keep running, you have the will to keep chasing. Admins have no reason to take one side in this issue, and you seem to be oblivious to the fact that you, as a pirate, are ACTIVELY TRYING TO TAKE HIS STUFF, and people have a natural tendency to try to avoid that, including inrp ship captains.
No atmosphere? GTFO.
The propeller is the greatest invention of all time.
Lemme get this right, You want a trader in a role-play server to drop his role-play to suit the pirates role-play?
It isn't much in dispute that if you try and put this in the minds of people that you will have double standards.
Traders should run anywhere they want, I don't need this responsibility of deliberately stopping and giving the pirate a chance to hijack me cargo ( although sometimes I do ) but that's a players wish and not a server rule or obligation - and to try and create one would be deeply offensive to me, and for Freelancer - "Open universe" anyone? Perhaps you should stop following them after you break the 50 clicks barrier, just a suggestion.
Battle of Will...Wait what? This is supposed to be a game, which is not some sort of war stuff, which really needs will/bravery/whatever. We play games to pass time and if such a time killing stuff turns out to be a long and pointless chase, I would rather do something else.
So yeah, after making sure that the trader is running for the wall, I could just Alt+tab and browse something in the meantime he gets blown to pieces. Also, calling people idiots just because they don't have the same perspective on an issue as yours, is the real dick move here. The trader has his own ideas to not pay the pirate and rather waste his time and the pirates time, the pirate has his own plans for it. It is the issue between THAT trader and THAT pirate. The way it turns out, depends on them and not all of them here, who are trying to make out scenarios/ conceptions that the trader is brave blah blah. I said what I would do, others can say what they will do when chasing a trader or being chased by the pirate to the wall. That would be a better discussion than telling what others might do.

Why am I even argueing here? And why would anyone take this matter seriously when clearly it is a player to player matter that doesn't require the stewardship of the server. You basicaly want to sanction people who want to avoid interaction for something thats completely one million percent legal. You have got to be joking here.
( Oh and I address this in general, not to a specific person )
Guys, if trader would love to keep their profit/time ratio high, they would NOT cruise to system wall. They would either get back to closest station or pay the pirate. Tell me how 30 minutes of cruising is more profitable than paying ~20% profit while the trip itself is usually 15 minutes long?
Pirates are not there to be douches. They do not make a living out of piracy in these times, they are there for interaction. If pirates would want to make good profit/time, they would just be smuggling to have that unlawful role that is so exciting.
I don't understand, why some people view pirates as some kind of jerks that are there to ruin traders' stay here? If there would be no pirates, lawfuls would have nothing to do but idle or PvP around with PvP-oriented criminals. Pirates and traders keep the activity cycle going. You mess with this balance and you get either no criminals around or no traders around. Both equally bad because that's X players less on server.
When traders start to change their mentality towards pirates, that's when we will see progress. And yes, there are jerk pirates, however, there are jerk traders too. If you hate pirate who demands all your cargo for no reason, then hate traders that refuses to interact on ooRP basis too. Both are equally bad in terms of atmosphere and ruin fun of the other party.
Again, wall running is not to keep your profits high. It's to avoid proper interaction with pirate. Traders received buffs in term of transport survival against pirates, gates with great pulse cannons that can strip pirate's shields and powercore and pirates received nothing. And yet, there are still people thinking how piracy is bad. No, piracy s good, because that small loss traders suffer is nothing in comparison to his regular profit/time ratio. Pirate can camp one place for 30 minutes to get one interaction, while trader can make at least 20M with regular cargo and double that with ore.
It's disgusting to see people defending ooRP actions in this roleplay server just out of spite for specific player group that plays the underdogs and exposes themselves to lonely camping, lawful ganks, silent traders, wall runners, silent engagers and all sorts of crap over the course of their piracy. You show me trader or lawful that receives that much abuse by knowing what's comming.
This is not an issue that needs to be regulated and enforced as we clearly have too many rules on this server - If you find someone doing something that you think distrupts role-play in general then you can file a report and the juries ( I mean the admins ) will decide on that. But to automatically finger people who may wish to run not as an attempt of trolling but to safe keep their cargo is completely understandable and acceptable. That ofcourse applies in places where he finds himself with no ally or no friendly base to run to. I don't think we live in the second century, and I don't think people here are chimps who cant tell the difference betw trolling and genuine human reaction.
