Is shooting a POB to prevent docking a violation? After all, in the "real" world, the base wouldn't prevent authorized people from docking to get to shelter from a hostile force unless that hostile force was an actual threat to the base.

Seems like glitching to me, but I want to make sure.

I suppose it would depend on the core. If it's core 2, personally? i'd say yes. It requires a RP post to actually shoot the thing. That's what i've always gone with anyway.

It's not really a violation. I wouldn't consider it an attack on the POB.

i think he means shooting a base to put shields up to stop another player from docking, i agree that it is not nice, and should allow the player thats authorised to dock to still dock when shields are up

Docking Prevention has been a subject which has come up a few times. Quite frankly, the largest stopper on that one, is someone who will be willing to make a FLHook addition for it. (Of course along with working out the details) Alley is already stretched thin.
As for terms with a Playerbase, I wouldn't say shooting it to prevent a dock is a bad thing. Game mechanic stopping any other option right there.
Unless it was an allied unit.. A solution on a fix to make this mechanic make sense is more than a single sentience.

Bases are one big glitch already, they should at you for no apparent reason so it only seems fair to shoot back.

Blame base shield technology inrp for making it impossible to dock when shields are up.

There are times and places where being able to prevent someone from docking on a station via that mechanic is extremely useful.

Oh, certainly. The pirates find it a great help to have the game mechanic work in their favor by having control of the on/off switch for the shields of a base that they don't own.

useful yes to the pirate/attacker, unfair to the transport wishing to dock, at that time, the base would open up on the bad guy that shot at it and would be killed, but, if theres 2 bad guys, the one that shot at it just flies off, or dodges, leaving the other bad guy to easily kill the docking transport

it would be good if the base would "detect" if they are in group or in same faction so it shoots at both
