Perhaps, Jayce, perhaps you are just exaggerating and Disco is still far from being dead.
Anyways, don't delete JDs, redesign them into Warp Drives. (Anybody been playing Heart of the Swarm may already have an idea of what I'm talking about.)
Mk1/2/3 given to snubs/smallcaps&transports/bigcaps, jumps you 2/4/6k forward upon activation, gets 60/90/120 sec cooldown, may or may not use fuel... just a quick draft on the concept, numbers may change.
nice idea, would be great and maybe people stop cri
I don't really care about JD fans, but if they are so important, JDs and WDs can exist parallel. That then would not stop JD-haters cry, so you don't really have a solution to stop all cries, do you?
Yeah actually that's another thing. Ok, so we're promised new measures to 'balance' jump drives. When are we actually going to get them? Surely until then it would be better to disable jump drives? And if that proves to be a good change - disabling them - keep it that way.
And in regards to poor alley, and whoever this new FL hook Dev is, having to spend loads of their time making countermeasure to JDs or balancing them, surely the easier option would be to just remove them which is what the community wants anyway.

Everyone's acting as if simply disabling JDs is an extremely simple option. You're forgetting a few things:
- Existing Jumpdrives were produced / paid for by players. They put in effort and did so specifically to get a Jumpdrive. It's not fair on them to remove something they spent a fair chunk of time getting.
- Jumpdrives are the kind of flashy feature that a non-Discovery player could potentially be "drawn into Disco" by. It's fancy and entirely unseen in vanilla. Something you "can't get elsewhere". We need these flashy things to draw in new players, I think.
- It's not necessarily less work to remove JDs, refund and so on than it is to add JD countermeasures/balancing elements.
- It's also likely that there'd be a similar outrage(quit) of sorts from a silent majority(?) that currently enjoys JDs but doesn't bother posting in moaning threads, were they removed.
I'm sure they're extremely irritating to play against (they were when I was still very actively playing Disco), but that doesn't mean that the concept - which really just comes down to "A means to instantaneously teleport to another location after a charging period" - is flawed. The current implementation simply doesn't encourage the kind of use that JDs should have been designed for in the first place.
Doing whatever the "majority" wants without questioning would be plain disaster.Removing something that has been worked on completely is not a very bright idea but there are pretty good solutions in the thread such as OP stated.Battlestar Galactica is a Sci Fi serie to take examples where jumping is a real issue , they have to recharge and do other stuff on FTL before jumping again. Also FTL can be disabled by Cylon strikes. Even depending on how damaged the ship is.
Just make the damn things to take 20 minutes to jump with less fuel. I don't care about the cloak and this post isn't about that. I don't know why you people keep posting here about cloacking devices when the title is not even close to that. I would like to ask you to stop posting about crap that has nothing to do with this thread. This conversation is about jumpdrives and how we can make them work on a single ship. Read the first post, and the reply I made today. Make the jump drives like they are in Battlestar Galactica, make them charge up for 20 minutes and use less fuel. Is best way to deal with and I don't think it takes that much work to change some numbers around.
Thank you.
People just keep posting about cloacks because they cry after they got killed from uncloaked ship nearby. Now tell me crying kids: How Dreadnought can kill a gunboat or cruiser that dodge too much? It must cloack and attack from close range.
And about JD. I'm not seein any problem in them at all. I'm not using them for long time and i'm not "crying" about it, even if i like them. I attacked some ships that just jumped away before i killed them, yes i didn't liked them, but still this is part of game. So what he jumped out? So what you didn't killed him? He want's to live too.
I was trolled btw after 1 of my victims jumped out that i was unable to kill him, that pissed me off, but not that i went to "cry" about that on forums like all of you did.
Also i dislike that "JD balance". What is 4 systems? Make JD4 charge for 5-10 min, but let them jump everywhere. I don't think that Black Hole can be opened only to 4 systems away.
And also Make other JD jump everywhere. I enjoyed hunting nomads in Omicron 99 and jump out from there when i finished some. Now i can do that only from close range.
This is game that should make you enjoy playing, but with all that restrictions in using stuff and all those trollers it's not giving you that much fun hours.
Also about "JD ruins game because we can't intercept jump trade". When did you intercept? I mean when i did jump trades i saw some fighters trying to intercept, that's not normal. Also i'm trading all time and haven't seen any pirate around so they could intercept me. Only 1 yesterday for 3 months. So that's also not a reason to make transports till 3600 jump and making only 4 systems possible. And don't say that i wasn't pirated by you yet, or you are flying there where i'm not flying because i wasn't pirated.
Haste sayed wright about 2 things. I bought those devices because i could jump everywhere and explore. Now i can't thanks to trollers. And i came to this server because it had JD, cloaks, battleships and docking modules. I liked that. Enjoyed that. And what you are crying about now is just because someone jumped out from you or uncloaked and killed you. If you cry about that so much then you are just a kid that need to grow up. GROW UP man.
I was thinking to be able to make 1 jump for like 200 fuel but it would take some time to calculate the jump. Like. let's say 10-20 minutes? This way we can have a carrier for eg. with 2-3 bombers jumping to a system to start a fight.
I think this is brilliant. With that sort of time frame you could remove the jump limit of 4 systems as in the that time a transport could do a trip without hanging around to long in one spot. Plus you wouldn't be able to use the jump drive to flee in a fight as it would take too long and of course carriers would be used more often which is a plus.
