Keep in mind the freelancer ID can assist allied and neutral people, and obviously it's allied to its own IFF. So Freelancers don't need to be hired to escort other freelancers, they can just flat out assist.

It is true that they can't hire BHG for example however, and can't be assisted by whatever other corporate ID might be with them.

Again, I highly doubt that admins would punish Freelancer IDed trade ship hiring Freelancer IDed escort. Even if it is against the letter of the rules, it's not against the spirit of the rules.

The rule was implemented after people using two Freelancer IDed started assisting each other in combat thus circumventing spirit of the rules for PvP abuse.

I think we should go back to the original queries from OP... We faded away a bit from it, though.

No Greens yet, sadly.

Hiring for an escort is not the same as hiring for a bounty.
Again. How is that difficult to comprehend?
The rule clearly states it and you still in your own mind add escorting to it. The rule is under bounties.

Yup... I think Tongue...

FL ID: Can fulfill any bounty and escort contracts, and may treat transports as combat targets when executing a bounty or escort contract against them.

This implies that the Freelancer can be hired as an escort by anyone (including other FL, Indie Miners, Pirates), but an in-game kill bounty would need a non-generic ID to hire them as per:

Bounty Rules: 4. Mercenaries, freelancers and bounty hunters may be hired on the spot in game by non-generic IDed players to assist with a combat without a forum post.

Nothing in the FL ID overrides this rule, so generic IDs cannot offer to pay for bounty hunting services. But this only applies to in-game bounties, FL can still post a forum bounty, just like everyone else.

Have I got anything wrong here? I'd certainly be interested to know!

Yak is thinking correctly.

When looking at rules, dont add things yourself that you assume.
notice how the rule is written

Bounty OR escort contract.

TY Nom Smile

For me the main difference between a bounty and an escort is that:

Bounty: Ship "X" is named as a target and will be engaged if spotted.

Escort: Any hostile move against the trader will be retaliated against.

Basically Bounty = offensive, Escort = Defensive. If you're a pirate, YOU choose to attack a trader, and get shot down if the escort is good enough Big Grin

Thank you for explanation, Yak, since thing has been caused by confusion of @Jeremy Hunter's post here:
