The idea that gravedigging should be considered "bad" is ridiculous. I'd argue that it's actually quite beneficial, because it brings previous thoughts on the matter to light, and someone perusing the thread might be informed of precedents (whether in staff rulings or in general community thought) regarding the matter they wouldn't otherwise be aware of, it's easier to find threads if you've got a vague memory of something someone said on some topic or other once but don't know what it was exactly, and it saves forum space.
Gravedigging should actually be an encouraged practice.

unless things have been already discussed and finished with or specific matters that were relevant 2-3 years ago but not relevant now would be bumped and would confuse the reader today.

If someone can't recognise that posts in the thread are old, or is too lazy to do the basic checking, it seriously begs the question of what they are doing posting in the thread.
