Update: I don't know why but I kept the complete directories of 4.87.0 and 4.88.0. Just out of curiousity I started FLserver in those directories and... FLhook does pop up there indeed!
After starting DSlauncher and Freelancer this server is seen but as an out-of-date one. Next step I tried was copying flserver.exe from 4.88.0 to 4.88.1 but that didn't change a thing (according FC they are different): no FLhook.

But it is possible that this message pops up twice because the moment I pressed "Post reply", I got a time out error.

There will be 2 windows, the one which looks like Command line is the flhook console.
No, I only get this blue FLserver window, no command line.
I feel really stupid: first of all the double posts and now of something that obviously should work right out of the box.
Thank you for your patience!
After launching flserver you will see window which asks you to set name, description and some other options. After setting them and clicking OK the flhook console will appear as the separate window.

No, just the FLserver window. See my previous message about starting up some older versions; it proves that I know what I should see but in this case FLhook window.

Saves you from all of the port forewarding and router setup. and ou can try out the game and the POB's. Kind of lonely with just 2 players but you get a feel for the game.
What if you use a lan service like Hamachi? Would that allow a person from outside your home network to join?

a 'standard' /common setup won't need that extra layer, just connect directly to the server through the internet..
People want to believe that God has a plan for them.
They don't wanna believe that anyone else does..

My son has the same problem so I didn't think of a corrupted file in the first place.
Anyway, I renamed the originally directory (just in case) and reinstalled everything. After starting FLserver FLhook appeared as hoped for! I also made a copy of this directory.
Then I started DSlauncher and it started to upload some updates first. After that I was able to launch Freelancer and to play the game as usual. After shutting down both I started FLserver and it started like usual. But FLhook didn't appear any more
Starting FLserver in the copy still went fine: FLhook still appeared. This server could be seen by the updated DSlauncher/Freelancer but only as an outdated version.
Then I got the idea to start Freelancer in the copy directory. That worked and I could connect to my "FLhook" server. So far it seems to work fine but I ran into one small problem: I cannot adjust the screen to the 1600*900 of my laptop. But if the rest works fine, like building bases, that will be only peanuts compared to what I have gone through until now.

So far it seems to work out very fine. I ran into a bit weird: after a power-down of my laptop Freelancer cannot find the last used account anymore.
After deleting the inaccessible one and creating a new I decided to experiment with the old accounts so I started to keep the old ones. But from that time on it kept up starting the second account.
I only have to find a way to make my base processing the delivered goods a bit faster, if possible. For the rest I'm happy.
A little bonus: this is still 4.87.0 with the war between Liberty and Rheinland, my favourite.
If anybody does still want a server tutorial. I will gladly write one up for you. I care about this mod and want to encourage it's growth by helping other servers come into fruition and tailor their server to their own tastes. I actually understand that not everybody wants to play the same way.
Just message me anytime. i will begin the write-up of the tutorial soon.
