Most people will ignore whatever cover you're having and instantly go "stop lying, ur actually infected! engage!".
It's gone to the point where most have given up. The Liberty event started because LN were ignoring an infected's cover and kept implying they're hostile and infected. If you want roleplay, you're better off using an FL ID or something else and trying to make yourself a nomad supporter or something.
The thing is though Ramke, in the almost 7 years I've played here I've never come across a Wilde trying to do anything besides drop 1-2 lines and engage everything. Even when I've acted like I didn't know they were wilde, playing off their ship and tech combo, but still oneliners and shooting
I have to agree with Reid here, through my whole Disco career I haven't had any RP from a wild player whereas they're undercover in x faction. Most players just don't even try hard enough to convince people that they're not infected or suspicious. I will not deny that some people just go directly to the "You're a bomad! Shoot Shoot! Kill it!" or that some game mechanics are actually making it harder. But Wilde players aren't really trying that hard, to be honest.
One of the way to actually solve this or make it easier is to make a plugin restricted for the Infected where they can setup their own IFF and/or rep in through a command. This would give the ships the IFF and/or rep of the faction they pretend to be in and practice their undercover stuff in, while still in good relations with the Nomads and their supporters.

That's one way of the handling it, IMO.
There is such functionality already, (both admins in the server and everyone else in OpenSP can do it by typing /setrep or rep when in openSP).
So yeah, Wilde could be better if they could blend in by changing their rep with a time restriction of sorts!
Like, in order to attack someone, they need to change to Wild IFF (as a rule) and there would be cooldown on when they can once again "meld" with another IFF, like Navy for example.
You go in, masked as a Police officer.... you pull someone over, escort them to a location (with good RP while doing it) and players may react differently in such encounters! What better way to set up some epic moments!

I think you still need to dock and undock in order to lose your IFF as seen from using /droprep command.
