question: making models that make it into the game, isnt that a developer's thing? as in, as far as i can see, most of the new models are made by normal members :o or is it just that they arent in the forum membergroup?

There is a process in regards to roleplaying a unique ship in to the game that requires a significant amount of roleplay and effort on the player doing so. All the development work for the ship (Hitboxing, harpoints, etc) is done by the player and usually reviewed by a developer. An SRP request is submitted using the appropriate format and 1,000,000,000 Credits provided. The decision is then voted on and it goes to the devs for a final review and implementation.
hm i've always wanted to know how to create things for disco, no idea how to or where to start though... i might be interested in learning that. then maybe one day you will see me in some epic SRP damaged/nearly wrecked zoner colony ship
PS, out of curiosity, is there a list of these kind of ships?

I haven't been able to put work in to completing the ship due to my modeler guy disappearing and the person who volunteered to help being rather flaky. This is an unfortunate setback for me as I'm unable to finish the work myself because of hardware limitations (MY PC IS GARBAGE). It makes me sad. ):
