I've recently brought up a thread and it got good attention. It was about the power of Cruise Disruptors, which is considered too great by many. Apart from stopping cruise engines it can break Cloaking device charge-up and Jump Drive charge-up too. Many players found this to be over excessive and some people experienced abuse of Cloaks and Jump Drives so they want all CD abilities kept.
Sindroms offered an alternative (which I support):
Give the Cloak-Disruption ability to the Wasp only. It is a currently under-used low efficiency CD. This way people on both sides could be satisfied.
Perhaps the same could be done with Jump Drives. I've heard about plans for a 'Hera' Torpedo for stopping Jump Drive charging, which would be great!
Abuse will be easily and cheaply countered, but devices remain useful. Currently I see very limited combat use of Jump Drives and Cloaks since anyone with a CD can stop them.
I'm not the only one who's suffered as a result of the absurd abilities of CDs right now. There's absolutely no reason that CDs should be able to stop cloaks now that cloak disruptors are a thing. I can't personally comment on the jump drives, though.

People forget about opportunity cost when they moan about cloak disruptor versus cloak balance. Mounting a cloak costs a slot and allows you to cloak at any time provided you have fuel, and get an advantage from doing so. Mounting a cloak disruptor costs a slot and 99.9% of the time does literally nothing that gives you an advantage.
That's why the two can't be balanced against one another as if they were equal. They aren't. Anyways, cloaks still allow you to take advantage of the element of surprise, regardless of CDs' ability to stop them from "charging".
Jumpdrives are just straight up ridiculous in most PvP situations, so I honestly don't know what to say other than "thank god CDs disrupt them". As far as I'm concerned their entire implementation is flawed.

I believe there was a technical reason for that not being done already. I'm all for it, even though I believe they should still be more accessible. Aren't they still extremely resource intensive to build? Since you basically need one on every single ship to reasonably play the game if CDs were to stop being able to stop cloaks, they'd need to be very very cheap and easy to build/buy.

You vastly overestimate how many people have cloaks. It is absolutely, 100% okay for some ships to have something that another ship does not have.
