Okay, so for now to try what Croft suggested.
I have thought of a ramp, but underneath of the ship. I haven't worked out any doors yet, letting myself to go for front-top part of it (As I usually do: front, top, sides, bottom, rear).
What Civilian carrier taught me is that you should have detailed and well-looking rear, especially for transports.
What bothers me for now is the armor "plating" on top of the hull. I start feeling like I am overusing it (remember all my ships). But that is a great way to make the mesh coherent witg a texture. The texture has these, so why wouldn't mesh do? Obviously, the question is in texture arrangement.
If you want to move away from the plating style you could take a page out of the Outcast cap line and add strips of darker colour or additional fins/ridges.
