Considering that this is a Roleplay server with a set of guidelines for character naming, we will delete all ships that do not meet these guidelines in 7 days, this should be enough time for you to rename them.
As I can forsee that a lot of people will ask 'Is this name ok?', I will give you a short hint.
If you have to ask if a name is ok, then you likely should change it to prevent the character from being deleted.
Bank characters that we can definitely consider as such will likely not be affected.
Is this all about characters name, or callsign given by thoses characters to their ship(s). Which is a totally different matter, considering that a character could give any name to his/her ship even the weirdest ones.
Well, we don't want direct imports here. That's one thing. The other thing is there is an unhealthy amount of said memes, who constantly reference to popcultural things, things on the internet and things of the Freelancer environment itself, especially this community.
Like, you know Oxygen is the worst trading commodity in terms of profit. However, there are NPCs from Vanilla that make statements like "I really hope my cargo hold full of Oxygen will fetch a good price!" - now imagine a player does that, flying around with a load of 5000k load of Oxygen and writes in the chat "I really hope my cargo hold full of Oxygen will fetch a good price!" - That's an example of meme-ing, as it's totally nonsense in terms of profit and just a reference to the funny things the NPCs sometimes say.
The thing is, it should be easy to have names that are not referencing to pseudo-'funny' things. Just have a normal name ingame, not John Cena, Chuck Norris or John Rambo.

Define "meme" -- this isn't a joke; I don't remember ever seeing the word until I started seeing Discovery players and Admins obsessing over memes. I've looked for the definition of "meme," but the definitions I've found are vague references to popular cultural ideas and beliefs. Are you really prohibiting players from using ideas for characters that they got from books or movies?
I suspect that most of my characters are now facing deletion. Even my forum name is based on a meme.
Where will you draw the line between acceptable and unacceptable names?
This is another ridiculous move. What if for example I want to role play as John Rambo and join the Liberty Navy?
What's the damn problem with that? That's my character and I role play it as a Navy pilot.
Know what? Just delete them, delete them all and see the feedback afterwards.
I thought meme-named ships were already getting deleted as they were found, but good thing something's finally being done about it
But where's the line gonna be drawn? We all know things like Donald.Trump and Joseph.Stalin are gonna get deleted right away, but what about names that, knowing the proper thing to link a reference to, the person creating the ship wasn't aware of?
What about names that outside of Freelancer would not be considered a meme, but have gained too much popularity here to the point some consider them a meme? Pic related.
Can I just point out in a very calm manner that there are quite a few pop-culture references in this mod?
Eg: the "Serenity" transport obviously a reference to Firefly, the Crayterian Republic which started out as a Battlestar Galactica reference, etc...
While I understand that it may be... annoying to encounter a Luke.Skywalker ingame I would still prefer that to a character named Cris.P.Bacon. Or a character named Derpy.Whooves.
All I'm saying is, I would hate to see more of the playerbase alienated because they decided to have some tongue-in-cheek humor and not take the game so seriously.

+10
Personally, I think this decision is dumber than the still controversial ban of several players(five or seven, I can't remember) months ago -- that was a poorly thought out ban with little or no evidence to support it which led to months of controversy and a developer strike. Am I about to be banned for protesting a Badmin decision? I've never been sanctioned or even officially warned for anything here, but that obviously doesn't stop the banhammer around here.
Guys, you need to realise that this isn't about names such as "Luke Skywalker", "Stormtropper" or similar.
It's about "get.rekt", "SUCKI_SUCKI_5_DORRAR", "ayy.de.la.lmao" and stuff like that.
More clear now?
