Anyway, should we get back on topic? I think it has advantages for House based operators but Indie/Border/Edge/Nomad worlds would be at a huge disadvantage. I say name them to the Taus/Omegas/etc on the player lists

what if i use the list to look for roleplay encounters? now i have to log in, get on a character, and check on the playerlist or undock to see if there's people in delta/around fp11
this is something ill get tired of doing over and over again, especially if there's no one around in delta or the omicrons in general, and eventually ill just stop trying

The player list no longer provides enough information to be able to figure out if logging in is worthwhile now. Seems like a bad idea if we want population counts to go up rather than down.
I've always used the player list to find interactions with and without guns. It really isn't biased towards either.
All this does is force people into a "chore". Logging in, scrolling through a less user-friendly list, and logging off again if nothing remotely interesting seems to be happening.
Oh, and I'd guess that the players most likely to bother logging in to check the player list are the mean "shadowloggers" you're trying to get rid of. If they're angry/bitter/hateful enough to log into a game just to try and upset other players, they're motivated enough to check the in-game list.

That's the 'No True Scotsman' arguement, and doesn't hold up in reality I'm afraid. The numbers are biased against the people legitimately using it

haste buy me a plex
So launching a game you like to play is a chore now?
Maybe they just want people playing that really want to, rather than those just logging to chase others for whatever purposes.
Besides that Freelancer is such a tiny game that it will only take a minute or less to get ingame.
About the same time to look up the playerlist, which by the way still shows in which houses people are hang out.
But erh,... yeah this game has a HUGE universe so it will take you almost TWENTY minutes to go from one side to the other.
Of course one can have an unlimited amount of characters spread across Sirius and log those if they are really lazy and don't want to fly in a space game.

didnt you quit disco "for reals this time"
my argument also holds up in reality, since i usually hang out on tal ravis in delta when im not busy GMGing
this change makes it considerably more inconvenient for me (the regular player) while not really hindering "shadowloggers" and the like since the only extra step involved is logging onto the game to metagame their targets
