Anyways the idea seems interesting, good luck!
The star disappearing would be pretty noticeable, no?
EDIT: Also, I wish good luck to this faction. As it is, it's not the end goal that's important, but the things that happen along the way.
That's a really cool idea, just what I would expect from Hans and the people he usually gathers around him.
Lots of RP potential and it will likely find a lot of supporters.
As stated above one made it out of Sol (How is unknown, actually small ships weren't able to jump that far!?) and even if he made it out it's a clear thing that Liberty kept it a secret for 824 years from anyone.

Only if you knew where exactly the star was supposed to be and if the way to the star wasn't blocked in any way - black holes sucking in light, nebulas blocking view, other stars in the way, etc. It's not like when we look into space we see ALL the stars in the universe.

A lot of the stars we see today aren't actually there. Light takes a very long time to travel just to our location and it isn't an immediate dissipation but rather something that takes tens, hundreds and even thousands of years.
I must agree with the others, to me it seems to be a great idea to advance. Even though, as it's already been said, you probably won't be able to make it Sol, it's something worth trying, and as I see it, there are countless fun RP possibilites for you at the moment.
Actually, I'm really interested in getting more in touch with you RP-wise, we could pull some cool things off together. If you feel like working with a band of mercs at some point, feel free to hit up @Forlorn Hope Command.
Anyways, I'm definitely looking forward to see you guys around!
I personally think that cool-wow-hip CGI thingy that Sol was destroyed by Deus-Ex-Machina Lulmads is a crock of Shibe Inus, and should NEVER be regarded as cannon since it was cut from the game release. It's not even cannon in the Disco-verse according to secret stuff.
Plus it's really monster-truckin' DUMB to have it cannon that Earth was destroyed by a Buttcloaking No-RP K'hara Cap, only to be saved by some elitist SRP jackhole called Atticus Rockford who has zero bearing on Freelancer's story. I mean, what?
Go for it, and don't let cut elements of Chris Robert's mind from the year 2003 which didn't even get into FL influence anything you do.
Edit: Actually, one of my characters might want to band up with you. Although you might want to change the tag to <Sol-> or <Sol.> <Sol|> looks like a double L.
Minor updates and a 3rd char added.
We commonly agree here that the destruction of Sol might be rumored, but isn't evidenced so far. Furthermore it wouldn't change the motivation behind this project.
About the tag. Even it can look confusing, we will stay with the simple Sol|Shipname as the 50mill were already spend.
Cool Idea, even if the overall objective off getting to Sol might be impossible, the research, development and construction of a "Hyper Gate" is something that could realistically be implemented inside the Discovery Mod universe. It would be cool if there were Hyper Gates, linking the Capitals systems of allied or friendly houses. Not necessarily for trade, but for urgent diplomatic meetings or tourism for the super rich. It could be implemented as a "Money Sink" for example, costing credits to use. Just a thought.

There already is a Hypergate. It's in Alberta.
Do your own thing and don't let anybody tell you what to do, Sol| peeps.
