I see around 70 players online now, it only shows how many people actually sit on the forums and do nothing, everyone just waits for a reason to log.
Simple, become the reason, if everyone of those people that browse the forum would log, others would do that too, generating activity is so easy, it is sad that it needs an update to motivate others to log, it is not like there is nothing to do if this update wouldn't have come. This could easily become a standard, I just saw so many people in the list I have never seen before, why don't you all just log and fly around, the more log, the more will see it and log as well, boom, 70 players online, it is not a big deal at all.
This place doesn't need as much help itself, it is the players that don't do anything and complain, this is also not a complaint, this is just so one can notice how easy activity is if we just bring it. It really doesn't need many events or updates, just you. Enjoy the new stuff
The thing is, some players sitting on forums might not be able to play atm (eg. sitting on mobile phone, being away from home, having too wooden internet connection to run the game). But as long term observation, I agree. Disco's become more a forumlancer than freelancer. But it's rp server and people need to rp in order to even bother to log.
Funny thing is people were speaking about it even in 2014 when there were about 130 people at some point. The game's been turned into an addition to forums, not the opposite way. Or it's just what they said, is it a valid point? That's up for discussions.

What new stuff?! They removed all the missiles and torpedoes from this game and then they promised to re-add them back to their normal and logic state. They did not do as promised. My reason is to bring back missiles and torpedoes. They added 1 missile which has even less ammunition now. Why would people log in if they remove important content from the mod?
For new infocards, bases, planets and some moved stations form point A to point B? For slightly moved jump holes because their placement was old and they needed to move the jump holes to bring something new?!
To get even worse battleships after this update?
Totally north worth it. I have seen updates years ago where there wasn't a free slot to enter the damn server, that's what I call a good update and a good community. Those days are over now. By removing and adding some colorful engines making Gallia advance more, won't return the fun we had in the old mod or the population.
You don't play Disco for new stuff, hell those "good ol' days" experienced some of the slowest development in the mods history. Disco is all about meeting characters and creating situations.
What we put into the game are tools for the player to use in creating their own story. The two new awesome fighters may not bring back the glory days but if the community removed its collective head from the sand and decided to be a tad more considerate to each other, well that just might do it.

The removal of guided projectiles is definitely not why people aren't playing this game. Besides they're probably the most incompetent type of weaponry around here, the Maxim, as you called it a "failure", is actually a better auxiliary weapon if you fire it along with your hullbusters.

This is probably the single best post on the subject I've seen in many years.
