I rarely ever see a pirate there. What are you even talking about?
Why'd anyone bother pirating when you'll dock and avoid any interaction before the pirate gets close?

I had to laugh quite a bit, because for my short experience it is true.
It might would be more of that if groups have to form to make it profitable and if it would be a huge difference to other ways to generate income, more people would do it.
And if there are more doing the same there is more interaction a logic consequence, also counting the pirats that would have a easyer life looking for victims.

Getting pob's further away of minefields sounds like getting closer to make group mining more tempting again. Onley looking at the actual mining activity, i have no idea about the impact on the rest of game mechanics pob's are good for which may would suffer, nor have i knowlege about moding etc.
//edit sorry, calc error.. 2,8 mio... that sounds better.
You would are the first person who claims to be a "Miner" and thinks that POBs are still to close at 15-20k from the edge of Mining Zone that I have seen. You must have a Pirate ID on one of your accts, It really is a 50/50 escape or capture at 15-20k from mining zone whether mining alone or as a team. Most of us do both.

I made a pirate but it has like 20 mins playtime, i am really a new player and i take it slow.
I think the case is i just mine on another spot than you, and i am mining on a pob we are talking about, like inside a mining field. Thank you for showing me that what i thought is normal is not. I must have been very lucky then until now. 50/50 sounds like escorts should be considered which is good isn't it?

Or you can ask Military/police to guard while while you are mining. I had a Carrier,Destroyer and Gunboat I would take into mining zone when i know pirates are near to protect Miners and get RP action when things are slow on the War front. I have had good PvP/RP battles against overly equipped Pirates in Cruisers and Gunboats. Most pirates will not fight to the death and run, log out and come back with a different ship and/or call in their friends for support ( Which I think is cowardly on the pirates part) during that time I advise the miners to leave area. The pirates come back to an empty field thus fulfilling my Military/police ID role inRP. You should think about trying that some time down the road. It is very rewarding RP.

lol no
Why would I be a military/police ID char when I could be in a Transport? The alternative, being that the miner mines and fills whilst their buddies logs their police/military ships, would work, but everyone's greedy and would rather have their hold filled with ore now.
i am actually trying to learn a bit about police rp. But i am getting offtopic. Anyway i think we made clear that for more interaction between player, who ever, pirates, police, miners, the pob's "inside" of miningzones, are a problem and it seem the actual ingame house rules or game mechanics or whatever (i would like to know) are not enough to keep them out of the actual mining zones. Hmm, i think i have to get ingame, have to mine a bit until the pob's inside miningzones are going poof XD Nah, got enough cash i can take it easy.

Yeah, because I always have the time to check if someone enters scanner range or even the system when I am busy mining or filling a hold. Seems to me that other people do mine differently however. But even most of the transports make a coffee break for the 4-6 minutes it takes to fill a 5k transport, so they are no big help either.
And then it makes no difference if the next POB is 15k or 20k away...
Well, in my mind this game and mod has a very fatal flaw, that is that RP 80% times involves shooting or demands of some sort. It is very rare to have non violent RP. And the nonviolent RP that occurs is usually just two trades acknowledging each other etc. There are very few vehicles in this game mode for non violent RP. Personally one of the worst things you could do is try to drag the traders, miners, etc forcibly into violent RP. I personally enjoy mining and trading, not even so much for the money, but because its nice to chill and listen to music and watch netflix. If I run into another trader great, and when I run into a pirate its usually just pay the ransom and move on. I try my best to weasel out of it with RP, but most RP seems to be focused around shoot first rp second. At least in my (albeit still limited) experience. The majority of the very interesting RP happens on the forums, in groups, and in the greater ecosystem of Sirius, be it with governments etc. However that is just my $0.02, and I have found that most players prefer PVP here.

I do it because I like ship to ship battles. I mine to get the credits for the Military ships so ppl that want to transport have protection and I get my battle itch fulfilled. I love chasing down pirates which is hard to do because of cloaking. POBs inside of Mining Zones is a bad idea but I never report it and I don't use them. The areas that I have Military/Police ID have no POBs inside Mining Zones due to the House Gov IDs destroying them every time they show up. Most of POBs inside mining zones are in Liberty and their bordering systems from what I understand from other miners. I rarely go to Liberty due to it being patrolled by moronic Indie Military/police IDs who like to bully Lawful transports and IDs
