I fly a Cruiser most times I log in and to get friendly escorts with the player-count these days is near impossible in my TZ. Unless you are in events where a good few peeps log-on for the short-hype. I have been in 3 bombers vs me (Cruiser) before and got killed by them. I had my fun, as it was a fair 'death' of my Cruiser and also shared out some damage to my targets etc.
I haven't met a bomber with a Corona as of yet. However, if I do get to meet a bomber, after the release of the latest patch, my insta-thoughts would be - "He is coming after me; most likely Corona fitted; High-range weaponry, I will not be able to defend myself with Solaris guns; I am a 'lone' cruiser trying to have fun; 100% sure RP will not get me out of this; time to Ferrari/log-off and make no interaction at all."
Not whining. Just made a quick assumption of a scenario of what that weapon can do now to a player. At least for me.
Hope this is fixed soon. As a modeler, I know it takes lots of time getting near 'good' goodies into the game. But, I for sure learned in my past that to perfect something, it must go through the low first and slowly progress after seeing its results.
*shrugs*
After watching the video that @Backo posted, I will take back what i have said. Judging how effective corona is on that video, even with 2 bombers, will be hard to take down a cruiser with said weapon. They have to come at solaris range to be effective and to have a good aim.

The example is misleading because if a bomber could 1v1 a cruiser there would be a serious balance concern as bombers grow in strength with numbers much more than caps. The damage is in a fine spot and good enough when you have multiple bombers focusing 1 capital ship, as it should be. A lone bomber won't do much against caps on its own neither is he supposed to.
This isn't about "bombers having a purpose now" or "bombers finally being good vs caps", it's simply about very, very low risk the bomber has to take to hit a capital ship while having guaranteed damage and still very good dps output. The range just has to go down no matter the argument, and the reason why it's rock-paper-scissor balance is because you're forced to log off a cap and log a fighter if you want to have any chance against a bomber, that's not how it should work. Bombers and caps should interact with each other equally with both sides having advantages and disadvantages, 0 risk insta hit weapon isn't okay. SNAC has bigger range but it's not an auto hit against anything, not even heavy battleships, so you have to come very close in order to increase your hit %. For gunboats you have to come as close to 200-300m, cruisers 400-600m, etc. Coronas hit everything from 1.2k.
As for the range, it's nothing surprising. Discovery calculates range from the center of your ship to the closest point on the enemy ship. That's why Corona's crosshair will appear at 0m from an Ish'tar but the bomber will appear at 1.1-1.2k on Ish'tar's screen. Does that mean Corona suddenly has 0 range? No, the range calculation is simply misleading. A gun will always travel its full range which in this case is 1.2k regardless of what the screen shows.
If we come away from the argument of 1 bomber vs 1 cap to the argument of 3 bombers vs 3 caps, I find it very hard to see how the caps won't close distance on one or two of the bombers.
If we're talking about a 3 v 1, I think it makes perfect sense that the 1 feels rather impotent. Being outnumbered 3 to 1 will do that.
However, in a fight where you've three caps and three bombers, the bombers are each trying to keep one target. The easy way to overcome this is for the capitals to form firing screens:
Whenever the bombers have chosen a target (and they must, to be effective, focus one target), identify that target and have him retreat while your other mates advance.
Under such a methodology, you don't get stuck alone 1200m from your target.
You know there is a chance to counter Nova/Snacs but there is no way to counter Corona beam. SNAC is possible to dodge and bomber needs to get close if want to hit easier but it will take lots of damage. Nova Torpedo is very easy to dodge with Cruiser and can use CM but BC cant really dodge so BC has Flak and CM to counter it.
Corona bombers just sit at 1.1k-1.2k and deal tons of damage to your ship, it eliminates most bomber loadouts because of that. All you need is Corona+anti-shield weapon like neutralizer bombs or asuras or incapacitator torpedo.
Corona is ultimate anti-capital weapon no way to counter with capital ship. I think that weapon is a mistake.
I also think SNAC,Nova and Scorcher Bombs, hits are not rewarding enough that is why people in need of creating new bomber weapon.
One light cruiser can solo a heavy battleship. One can even say they can solo light battleships.
Yet you lot are crying because two, three bombers can actually melt you if they don't do mistakes.
You say you have no counter against Corona. And yet again, does a heavy bs have a counter against cruisers that basically drops them down without loosing shield?
This is also not BS vs Cruiser thread, if you have question about how Cruisers can counter a Battleship and how a Battleship can counter Cruiser you can create new thread for it. I suggest you to talk with @Thunderer about it though that is fastest way.

So you cannot? I mean, your only problem is two, three bombers having their way with your cruiser? While you think you should have your way in a cruiser against everyone?
