Why not command your gunners to fire on the pirate?
Try to escape.
Ram the pirate.
Call for back up.
Keep the pirate talking.
Etc.
There is -no- need to go ooc with it. And no excuse, either.
Agreed. Running can be fun.
Also, Transport Turrets are not anything to be trifled with; you can take down a Heavy Fighter and sometimes even a Bomber if you are skilled enough and in the right ship with the right equipment.

I think...almost everyone here is missing "The Point" entirely. No matter who it is, no matter what happens, no matter how "OoRP" you think someone is, you should always stay in RP. This includes pirate encounters.
What makes someone "lolwut"? What deems us better than someone else to apply this adjective to him? Is it because we deem ourselves as good RPers? Why not assume that this person is, in fact, within RP, no matter what kind of wording is given to you? If you, say, RP with someone, he will RP in return or he will continue to "lolwut". Either way, RPing will have a positive effect on him. This effect will either be that you can address the fact that he is Out of RP, and maybe hasn't heard of RP, or he will begin to mildly RP.
If you don't believe it, try it. When someone continues to act in a manner not quite in RP, you can talk to him, in private, about the rules, the server, and RP in general. Sometimes you find out that some people don't really want to RP that much, or are scared by it, or think it's silly, at which point you can help them rectify their fears or misgivings. When they begin to mildly RP, it is quite obvious, as it is not entirely serious and somewhat silly, at which point you can talk to them too. It might seem like a stupid idea, to always RP on an RP server, but it honestly works out.
So, to put it into terms of the argument, why would you run from a pirate you know you can't run away from when they "Are bad RPers"? Why would someone treat a trader who "RPs well" better than a "lolwut" trader? Treat everyone with the same amount of respect, OoRP, and everything will sort itself out, one way or another. Seriously.

Oh believe me, I can run from them. And to clarify, I never go OORP in system or local, especially in the middle of an interaction.
If this is what you would do to a "Good" RPer, then why are you assuring me of anything?

I totally agree with you... we are a Role Play server.. that means we are placing it on the highest level of priority. Since I have the benefit of living with Mordrom, I know exactly what he was trying to say. I'll say it a different way... EVERYONE here is responsible for the quality of RP. That is to say, that all participants can make it great or take it straight to the toilet. Pointing fingers isn't a great idea, nor is flaming. However a private word in PM may help someone out, who isn't exactly 'doing it right'. If it's too beyond the pale of reason... I suppose we have other recourse, yes? And for the record, Mord NEVER said an ADMIN cap of piracy demands was in order. He never said that. He was trying to say that astronomical demands may in part...push the trader toward the attitude of "kill me... it's cheaper". That was his point. I've read everyone's post on this thread and I totally see where people are coming from. I think the notion of a little common sense regarding demands is not unreasonable. I also understand situations where it may behoove the pirate to demand all cargo dumped and destroyed, like a Corsair catching someone supplying their enemies... however... a wanton demand for more credits than the cargo is worth...I mean come on. The trader sees diminishing returns... I'm a trader, guys. I fly a Zwhale. I have no guns. So sure, I'll pay. I have no issue, it's like the cost of doing biz in dangerous space.
But someone comes at me with a 22 mil demand, yeah that's really really really gonna make me think...um nope, I'm gonna run. I'll RP it... but yanno what? I'll counter offer... failing that... I'm gonna run...futile as that is...because hey... that's just flat out wrong in my mind. Lose a percentage of my profit SURE!!! Lose all of my profit and THEN some... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? GET REAL.
Just my thoughts. I'm done with this thread. For those who require the big blue pencil... I hope this helps you to understand the points that I felt were missed.
As I've already stated, if I see a ship on my scanner that is behaving like a pirate, I am going to reach for the cruise button.
If they manage to stop me, I'm going to be grumpy about it, as I know they are going to say 'give me the moneys' or something along that line.
I'll rp the 'darn it, they caught me and I'm grumpy about it' Trader, as well as I can, but seeing as how I'm grumpy, I won't be nice, but I may be 'civil'.
On the down side, if said pirate hits me for what I think is a silly amount of money, I might give it to them, but I will place their name on my "stay away from this guy" list and if they happen to be in a system I *need* to travel thru on a trade route, I'll just dock and play some other char until they go off line, otherwise I'll find an alternate route to where I am going.
Right now there are far more Pirates on the server than there are Traders, so there is lots of 'demand' (from the pirates) and not so much 'supply' (from the traders).
