I like the faction. I'm not asking for it to be deleted either. I just think it could find a much better, more integral, and more relevant purpose as a pure PvE/NPC entity.

changing alive RP/PVP players for NPC/PVE? Urgh. Thanks. no.
NPC factions having player factions are not mutually exclusive. Missions are already based on NPC factions with associated player factions. Having a story / lore for the NPC faction, or PvE missions, or anything else of the sort that would normally apply to NPC factions, is not dependent on eliminating the ability of players to play as affiliated with that NPC faction if they so choose.
And if they don't, then it's like any of the other NPC factions that don't have many people playing as them. It doesn't mean we lock it out.
It's so funny and sad when you see some people being completely out of the rail of this topic/debate and lack any solid arguments to hold their positions, they rather just act defensive.
Smh.

For a very brief time I have had a Gammu AI character. I was very much shocked at the sheer hatred being thrown against this character just while "flying through space". It's like most episodes in human history that we fear and try to destroy that which we do not fully know or understand or that which is different from 'us' and the herd we (think) belong to.
Suffice to say that in this day and age in space (the time it's set in) there is a valid reason for AI to exist and to have evolved to become a society in itself. I personally believe that when people start seeing Gammu for what they can do and embrace them as 'one of us' or at least 'a neighbor' there can be much more interesting RP and storylines to pursue than just fear and loathing of that which we don't know or understand.
Not simply judging but being openly interesting in seeing where both humans and AI can see each other's strengths and overcome differences can perhaps pave the road for even better roleplay adventures.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you, but it's still on the list...

Some people play edgy, nothing you can do about that. My OC suffered the same when I logged into Delta. No words from me, just racist ppl hating on me sniffing.
Speaking as someone who plays "unpopular" factions namely synth foods and imperial shipping I don't think reducing player choice is the correct way forward, as long as said faction fits the discovery environment and is not a direct import.
To improve AI roleplaying perhaps like Captain Morgan suggested a slow move away from scout drones rp to an entity trying to carve out a nation and society for itself indeed, it could also present opportunities for neo Luddite roleplay from those opposed to AI sentience or at least wanting AI to be more servile vs those who want to treat them on par with humanity furthermore I believe the game masters could if faction limits arent reached and it's technically feasible and the demand from the community was there create super tough PVE AI events that could spawn for say an hour or two and suggest they represent " harvesters " from Primus ( to replace the easter egg Planet of the Apes) or from an undiscovered world in an undiscovered system and sector.
