I used to play on this server a lot, many years ago. Just jumped back on a couple of months ago.
But coming back, so much has changed.
I recommend getting yourself on the Discord channel for DiscoveryGC.
From there you can find links to many other specific channels, such as mining, trading or official faction channels. Even if you're not in said faction, most people are happy to help answer questions (I'm not in the 46th, but I have a Navy character, so I sit in their channel a lot. The people tend to be more helpful and friendlier than on the main channel).
One thing to keep in mind is that this is just a game. Don't take it too hard when you die and don't get too obsessed with killing others, if you do decide to hone your pvp skills. It's a roleplay server, sure, but PvP is all some players have to look forward to, so even if you're a neutral Freelancer trader character, expect to get killed at some point.
Welcome there new comer, I am sure we got you need around DIscovery, But just a note of advice from a rrokie still myself, expect a lot of Roleplaying and been shot. Trtust me diving into the deap end of disco gets you off guard fast. If you want a friend who can help in old Freelancer, feel free to dm me on Discord, Names under my Profile.

Always take care deciding yourself options
Maybe you wanna be a lawful character or unlawful
If you wanna be a lawful character check out the 46th
We are recruiting ?
Thank you. I'm still exploring in a solo way, but I think I'm coming to a point where continuing to enjoy the game more is going to involve getting more involved. I will certainly look into your outfit.

I'll get myself into the Discord scene - thank you for the suggestions.
Understood and agreed it's just a game. Sometimes you're the bat. Sometimes you're the ball. Wouldn't be much fun otherwise. I'm actually kinda digging the chaotic elements in the galaxy/biosphere/server/Sirius. They add a challenge in addition to the environment that keeps the whole thing fresh.
Dabbling in mining right now. I haven't done a Navy or Police experience yet. I may go that way next. Thanks again.
