While the lore of the factions is they managed to hold their own in the 80 year war by just spamming snubs against Rheinland caps, that's not exactly how things play out ingame nowadays and gameplay-wise, GMG is currently in the uncomfortable position of having to go up against 3 different factions with full caplines while having no caps of their own. So, to even the odds it's time GMG gets some caps of their own to throw at Rheinland and Hispania.
This has already been in the works for a while, with input from GMG official faction and balance team, and it's finally in a clean enough state to get a more public showcase. The potential balance for this, at least for the time being, is likely to be a Light BS with a FWG. Specifics are still TBD. Mep annoyed and bribed me into doing this. Blame Mep.
What's Next?
There's also a few other toys in the works for GMG. So far they're all that the early sketchy stage, so the BS will probably make it into the game first and the rest will follow later with a bit of a gap.
The following links are just sketches and mockups for preview, so expect them to change a fair bit once they gets their turn on the chopping board.
New GMG Snubline and Freighter with a style heavily influenced by Kaichou and more consistent with the new capline. If you're a fan of the existing GMG snubs, no need to worry, those won't be replaced by these. Specifics are still up to the dev team to decide, but the most likely suggestion for the time being would be to open up a new "Sigma Civilian (Lawful)" techcell for those ships to comfortably settle in. InRp, after designing and producing a new snubline GMG just decided to throw the surplus of their old line on the open market.
GMG Cruiser (pardon the mess) so the BS doesnt feel lonely in the cap line. This one's still a super-early mockup so the finished ship may or may not look anything like this, but this is the general idea at least for now.

Quote:There's now a Discord server for Disco Modelers to share their on-going projects and gather feedback:
Main updates, major discussions and polls will still be handled via forums, but if you're interested in keeping up with the more incremental updates and providing real-time feedback, feel free to join.
I blame Zelot.
Also I want the FWG to be named something about farts and gas, else I will be very disappointed.
Nice work though, about time Mep goes raid people now and stops just mining.
Snubline and freighter are just awful, imo. Even compared to what we have now. Not to mention current Garanchou has a masterpiece design. Cruiser isn't bad. Pretty good lookin, yah.
But battleship... Pardon? Light battleship with FWG? Orly? Or maybe Gas Miners Guild will get HEAVY DREADNOUGHT, eh? For gas mining, not otherwise. Mep's "promotion" definitely had no effect on bringing that meme to life, of course.
The models look nice, but I won't lie that I don't think they really 'feel' like capital ships as they are now. The battleship in particular seems like it could be a rather fancy liner, the cruiser maybe like a GMG version of the Democritus, a sort of 'light liner'.
The fighters feel like they have a bit too much Rheinland influence (which might be the point), and kinda look like offshoots of the Unioner's ships. Not bad, but somewhere within the uncanny valley.
Bit of context on general idea behind reworking the look of snubs:
Quote:GMG is only Kusari in name. Aside from just happening to be on the same sleeper ship as that house and so having their start in Kusari, the actual lore of the faction has never really had much to do with Kusari itself. Corsairs and Outcasts were on the same sleeper ship as well, and while they have similar cultures because of it, their ships look nothing alike. GMG is more of a Rheinland faction than Kusari in the sense that literally every major beat in their story development has in one way or another involved Rheinland, so while their culture and background might be Kusari, to be perfectly honest, it just doesnt make any sense to me for their ship to have bunny ears such strong Kusari influence in their visual.
They've developed their tech in a completely different environment, having to counter completely different threats, so it'd only make sense for their whole tech tree to have a completely different look to it - One much closer to Rheinland's, especially since those were their main adversary for the longest time (and things seem to be circling back to that again). The massive graveyard of Rheinland ships right in GMG's front yard would also play a role in that, though it still wouldn't exactly be "reverse-engineered rheinland tech", just a matter of two separate technologies developed based on similar resources, in similar environments, on similar requirements and maybe borrowing some ideas off eachother ending up lookin similar.
Also Kaichou looks quite nice and its look is much more consistent with all the existing larger GMG ships than the Karasu/Garanchou, so having a reworked snubline built around that would also help introduce some visual consistency to overall look of GMG line.
Tho I do agree on snubs having a bit of "uncanny valley" look to them right now, but that's mostly because their proportions are quite loose and details mostly undefined at this point. It'll likely look much more sleek once everything is tightened up and the details properly refined before it gets pushed ingame.
As always, not a fan of those quasi modular snublines. But I do look forward to seeing what they look like once they progress further. What, however, will become of the current Benzaiten? That ship is far too gorgeous to be replaced.
