At your request, I am retransmitting this message on a private channel exclusively to the Guild. For simplicity's sake, this is a carbon copy of the earlier message.
Our partners at BMM's Douglas Station in Omega-3 have informed us of an increase in sales of terraforming gasses bound for the Okinawa system. Astronomical records suggest the most likely candidate for terraforming in that system is Planet Miura, but to be certain, we dispatched one of our senior engineers to check. Based on that engineers report, Planetform's management has confirmed that you've begun an unsanctioned terraforming project on that planet.
I cannot stress enough how much of a bad idea that is. There's a reason that Planetform is the undisputed leader in planetary terraforming, and why nobody attempts it on their own. It is not the work of amateurs. Terraforming a planet is not like regulating an enclosed, artificial environment. A planet is an incredibly complex system that often does not respond to alteration in ways you might expect. There is an almost infinite number of ways the process can go wrong and leave you with an irreparably damaged world even less habitable than the one you started with.
Attempting to conduct a terraforming project without the benefit of an experienced and well trained, dedicated staff of planetary scientists and geoengineering experts is not likely to produce the results you expect. At best, the project fails, and the planet is left much as you found it. At worst, particularly if you attempt to rush the process, you fail at achieving the required balance and cause a runaway greenhouse effect that transforms your uninhabitable frozen planet into an uninhabitable Venusian-type world, even less fit for colonization than if you had left the planet alone. Make no mistake, the worst-case scenario is the most likely result here considering the rate of warming that my engineer has reported.
Fortunately, for your sake, we caught this early enough that permanent damage can still be avoided. I must insist that you allow us to help you and turn over administration of the project to Planetform at the earliest opportunity. We are willing to work with both you and the Kusari government on payment terms both of you can live with. If you are concerned about being cut out of the project entirely, you need not worry. We are willing to license the production of Terraforming Gasses to your guild for the duration of this project. Please do not allow your overconfidence to destroy an entire world. The stakes are too high to not do this properly.
I'm not sure how things are done in Kusari, but where I come from it's considered rude to ignore someone who's trying to help you. I had hoped we could reach a settlement before you did irreparable damage to Miura with your amateur fumblings. Instead, you've allowed your hubris to override your good sense. Just remember that the longer you wait to admit that you're in over your head, the harder it will be to undo the damage. In any case, you've made your choice. On your own head be it.
The Gas Miners Guild has been engaged in the terraforming of Planet Miura for some years now and this project has been met with unexpected success, proceeding well ahead of schedule. Please note that Planet Miura is located within the Okinawa system, which is sovereign Guild space in which the Restored Empire of Kusari, while being considered a very close friend held in great esteem, holds no authority.
Although The Guild's endeavour to enhance the habitability of the planet has been entirely fruitful and is fully expected to continue to be so, it is recognised that Planetform, Incorporated is by far the leading authority in the field of the terraforming planets in the Sirius Sector. As such, The Guild is thrilled with being presented with the opportunity for our two organisations to collaborate.
As such, please accept the hand of friendship, and an invitation to Planet Miura. On arrival you will be welcomed by GMG representatives and your initial advice on how we should proceed together will be most gratefully received.
I apologize for the lateness of our reply. I must admit that we weren't expecting to hear from you, and consequently I've had a number of other projects occupying my time. It would, of course, be our pleasure to assist you in your efforts on Miura. I will dispatch a survey and engineering team to look over your operations and draw up plans to bring it to a successful conclusion. I will also dispatch a legal team to discuss contract details with your lawyers.
If we're to do this properly, we'll need access to a full orbital facility to coordinate operations. It is my understanding that Isehara Refinery is already serving in this role. In the interests of efficiency and corporate security, we'll need to take over full administration of this facility. Kishiro may, of course, continue to operate the plutonium refinery without any interference from us. However, the docks and station security must be solely under Planetform's direct control. We are under constant threat of corporate espionage from potential competitors and terrorism from small minds who hate and misunderstand what we do, and keeping security in-house helps us more effectively deal with these threats.
There is one more matter I need to get out of the way now. As I previously stated, one of our engineers visited Miura on a fact-finding expedition. While she was there, she reported to me that you're planning to finish Miura's terraforming no later than 850 AS. I need to be blunt with you here so there's no risk of misunderstanding. You cannot successfully complete this project in 23 years. The planet is warming too quickly, and we'll need to slow it down if we hope to succeed. If would suggest looking at Planet Amiens in Gallia as an example of how critical it is to do this in a properly controlled manner.
Your engineers seem to be under the impression that you can complete it as quickly as we finished Anaheim, but Anaheim was a special case due to its unique geology. Miura is also projected to be warmer than Anaheim which presents its own difficulties. I am confident, however, that we can complete Stage 1 within that time frame and move on to Stage 2, introducing new life to build a functional biosphere. Building a complete biosphere and stabilizing the planet into a perpetually self-regulating global environment will take longer, but I'm confident we can complete the project by 880-890.
The Guild intends to commence the surveying, colonising and ultimately terraforming of Planet Saigon in the Sigma-21 system.
Since Planetform, Inc. is renowned as the foremost authority in this field, it would be a great privilege to enlist the expert assistance of your organisation in this matter and embark on a joint project. A base of operatons, Mekong Station, has already been established to facilitate this undertaking.
Should this be possible, The Guild is in a position to discuss terms.
Good Day Mr. Nimura. I apologize for my delay in replying to your communications. The mail must have been lost some time during the change in company ownership. Let me introduce myself. I am Dr. Charles Holland. Norman Grey has left the company due to disagreements within the board. I have to say, after our disastrous breakdown of communication regarding Miura, I am surprised you are even reaching out to us. We had assumed you had developed your own terraforming technology, as inefficient as it may be, and we were resigned to leave you to your own devices. We would be happy to put our past disagreements behind us however petty they may have been. How may we be of service to the GMG? Please do be informed however, that Planetform does not take on projects in an advisoral capacity. If we are to help you, it will be with our technicians and our technology. Is this acceptable?
