Hi all, tried following the various tutorials and fixes that I've found on here, not one has fixed my problem. Now it's time to ask you intelligent folks if you know any other way I can get Disco to work again!
This first occurred a few months ago now (not sure exactly when). I can open the launcher just fine, receive any updates etc and click launch game. I get the splash screen for maybe a second or two, then either black screen (like it's changed to window mode as you can see the window) and then CTD, or just a straight CTD.
I've done a full reinstall of vanilla and Disco, ensured I have the .NET framework enabled (the correct version as well), I've tried both with and without bloom. I have disabled DirectPlay and reenabled (in the hopes that getting it to reinstall itself will fix anything if that was what's broken). Nothing seems to fix this.
I did think this was an issue with Disco, but just checked and Vanilla Freelancer won't even launch now. I'm at a complete loss as to what the issue is exactly. Any help would be hugely appreciated!
I've attached the text file. I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking at to be perfectly honest, but it does mention something failed at the end. I'll give renaming that folder a go as well in the meantime

This looks like DirectX issue. Try running dxdiag.exe
Are other games using DirectX working fine?
Code:
E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Client\LoginMgr.cpp(351) : NOTICE:General:Starting single player game.
E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Common\Archetype.cpp(60) : *** ERROR: ArchDB::Get(2865977221) failed
I have searched for ERROR: ArchDB::Get on google and found couple instances of this error related to Freelancer. Mostly on FL modding sites like starport lancersreactor etc. There it usually is caused by modding of the game.
Since you reinstalled, this should not be an issue. Although there might still be some files corrupted. Maybe try different installation files?
It could also be an issue with *.fl files in the documents freelancer folder, then renaming it should fix it.
If I understand it correctly, the game crashes when loading the menu, which contains something very similar to classic ingame system (like Pennsylvania) containing ships and other solars. (This is true for Discovery, not sure about vanilla freelancer as I do not have it, but should be very similar.)
In any case I would avoid Discovery and focused on getting vanilla Freelancer started up first. But I might be wrong on this one.
Tried another reinstall from disk, no joy. Also tried downloading the ISO and using that. Still when I try to run Vanilla FL, I'm not even getting a response. Nothing is coming up on screen (not even an error message)
I've even deleted the documents FL folder (tried renaming it, nothing, so thought deleting might help, still no luck)
Edit: Just installed the no-CD exe from the Starport, and it's launched first time. I'll try reinstalling Discovery and see if this has resolved the issue at all
Edit 2: Appears this has resolved it. Didn't know that was a thing, but if it works it works Thanks Ronillon for your help!

Discovery install just copies the data from Freelancer into it's own directory. After that, it does not touch vanilla Freelancer folder.
Discovery has it's own Freelancer.exe and FLserver.exe files...

Maybe it is a config issue? If yes, this should solve it.
Just wanted to say thanks. This solved it for me. Thought my Intel Graphics couldn't handle Discovery. Now I can play it on my laptop.
