It's a previous ability locked behind a paywall. You can kit out 3 VHFs out of a money for a simple freighter engine. Buy a heavy battleship shield. It is just excessive.

I fail to understand where you are coming from? I only play when i feel like it with play times and how much i play a week is very inconsistant but even I still have somewhere between 2-3 billion. 20 million credits for anything in this game at this point is like chump change.

Money sinks shouldn't make function more expensive. I mean haste you are the one who made VHF cheaper, cau8 give no advantage and cheap basic AU - and now you try to act all cute pretending how this is a good idea ?
Just make plain civ 400 engines for freighters very cheap, and you can keep or hike prize for colourful cool ones.
EDIT: I do some across sounding too harsh - but you know what I mean - it was really bizarre seeing civvie engines for 20 mill on a cheap freighter and goes against your own philosophy. I am sure snowflakes like me won't mind paying even 100 mill for very cool engines with effects a lot of work went into, and it's a good idea - but make people pay for the effect, not paywall the function, especially on a class beginners start with. Want default engines? Here you go pal.
Want to look cool? You better have the cash money ready!
Also one rather amusing thing in this patch Gendarmerie ID - I mean it won't do any harm, people will barely notice it's in the game I assume - just curious what made you re-add a NPC faction nobody asked for and nobody will play after Gallia got praise for having one lawful ID.
Suppose you were scared to put TLAGSnet on GN ID which literally nobody would mind - but why create this bloating busywork for yourselves that players will just ignore, as was made very clear to you well in advance

Let's grab an existing ability of your ship, then put it behind an annoyance of a paywall while every other ship of the price point is cheap to kit out.
I don't quite enjoy EA games tier tactics, but maybe you do. Hardly a money sink, but a flat out annoyance for one class.
