Well fix and or implement fixes, @darkwind fixed the deathstar problem years ago code wise, it simply was never implemented, shocking.
Again... it's nice to have more technical possibilites.
But
95% of problems around pob could already be fixed by adding a few simple rules, even without changes in the plugin.
It's just impossible to even try and talk about it with staff, or with large pars of the community (the kind of people that tend to stay here instead of leave), because they aren't mentally capable of doing anything but repeat memes that have been floating around for 10+ years.
Zentor isn't coming back, at least not anytime soon. Anybody who knows Zentor at any personal level knows that his personal life is part of the reason for leaving. He's very busy right now and it sounds like his life is on a positive trajectory - he should stay as far away from this place for the time being.
In the meantime, the points are valid - there are too many POBs not being used and it takes too much work, given the current population, to maintain them. I propose:
1. Core 1 POBs have just one build slot to be used for a blueprint. Make that blueprint cost the player a lot of money (up for discussion, but billions of credits will make people think if they seriously want a POB). The build costs no resources, just the blueprint. Core 2s have the same number of build slots.
2. Decrease consumption rates and commodities required to build by 50-75%.
3. Make sieges easier/make it climactic. Instead of siege declarations, what if it turned into a mini event. The parties are assigned a mutually agreed upon time and location. They and their allies fight - if the siegers win, they proceed to siege. Sieges should not take more than an hour. This prevents people from having to pull all nighters to either siege or prevent sieges.
POBs have been a topic ever since I started playing again a few years ago and it's the same thing over and over. Ideas are poured out but little is done. It's even caused a government to retconn laws overnight and break server rules. I'm pretty burnt out - reach out if a dev wants more ideas or a discussion further, but if not, I'm kind of done :/

It basically requires flying unarmored 5kers, incentivises flying untagged and without escorts just to move the largest volume of POB supplies around inconspicuously. The supplies themselves are very cheap and hence not valuable to be pirated. The POBs technically foster cooperation but they don't do it in a very good way because it's just getting as much people powertrading for zero profit as possible. Instead it would be best if POBs encouraged people to convoy by lowering the material requirements, making it easier to intercept the supply transports, making it higher risk and higher reward as well as letting hostiles interfere with POBs in a larger capacity than just sieging.
edit:
btw regarding drain on server resources i am wondering if it wouldn't be less if w&t and fow ticks happened once in bulk during the server restart rather than every few seconds
Role play. Having come back here, after 7 years, I have a severe doubt, when it comes to Player bases, anyone allows Roleplay.
There is a current base in Omega 11 that has been the focus of the absolutely worst Roleplay reason to destroy, I have seen in quite a while.
1. Over a year ago, the base owner built a base.
2. A previous representative gave permission to keep the base active, giving a dubious warning that "any strange activity or, excuse the expression, support for the "Great" Houses," Would cause it's destruction Here.
3. Over one year later, some Hessian and SCRA player just decided the base needs to die. They didn't even mention in their original RP post, Why. This leads me to believe this is just that OORP troll these players wanted to do, to just cause grief. Here.
In this initial So called "role play." There was no attempt to even reach out to the original base owner.
The Base owner DID try to reach out and find out why in the world his base came under attack. Here.
They then said "(you were told) do not to conduct any actions with the houses, yet we were able to confirm that several house powered corporations were able to dock on your modular base" But they provided no evidence, no images, no video, nothing. With over a YEAR of activity, they didn't even provide any evidence. If there were any, they would have evidence.
4. If this is what You folks consider "role play" then all you need to do is make a House transport, land and have your friend take a picture and claim See SEE a House is helping you.
Technically speaking, the demand was that the Base owner would not show support FOR the Great Houses, not FROM the Great Houses. What's the problem with the base owner, making a House character so they can buy a 5k transport? And "Strange Activity" is really a Cart blanch demand. It seems to me, instead of actually attempting a roleplay, the SCRA and Hessian players just could not WAIT to blow up a player base. Where was the actual Role play? This is on the same line as two pirates jumping a transport and telling their partner, "We attack transport Ja?" "Ja we attack now!" They didnt even bother to make demands or even question why to the player base. Keep in mind, that base has a Core 3. It's been around for over a year and with just a bit of effort, the current SCRA players wouldn't just presume a person just willy nilly built a base there. I remind you, it was the Hessians who called on the SCRA to attack it. If the attack was based on the original agreed on violation, the SCRA would have reinforced the attack with that detail. All evidence points to players just wanting to blow up a player base with the least effort possible. They didnt even demand payments, Demand items on the base, heck demand the base owner to build items for them. But no. "We see base, wana pew pew?" "YAY we pew pew base!"
Amazing roleplay folks.
Sometimes, when all you want is to gain your freedom, you must be willing to risk it all.
Core 3+ should be classed as transports rule-wise for attack purposes- they did loads of RP, people like RHA should be forced to make reasonable demands first and roleplay with them when they didn't care about them before they got the high core.
The PoB changes made all bases stop shooting hostile targets unless attacked, they are much harder to upkeep - they shouldn't be combat ships in server rules, not the roleplay necessary Core 3 and higher for sure.
And I wouldn't put SCRA and RHA in one bag regarding the latest siege - RHA are perfectly in line with sieging, it's on staff that they allow pirates to siege without demands against bases that had to have lots of RP to exist as Core3+ it's on staff to make this obvious fix, RHA do what staff allowed them.

Daumann makes a PoB 10k away from Vogtland. Hessians make a piracy demand, as the base is a transport. Daumann pays. Hessians cannot do anything about the Daumann base in visual range of Vogtland.

That's on them - they had all the time in the world to take it down when it was core 1+2. Core 3s have to have a good amount of visible forum roleplay. If anything it will force people you know - to log their factions and undock one time at least , oh the terror
What i can tell about why i like Pobs is that they make room for Fraction interactions and as some Pobs show they are a very good place to get in talking with other players.
So they are a core product of our Offical Fractions out there, what means also a reason for good and much RP.
In my eyes @Czechmate idea about a wall for High core base's (what means that someone really put time and effort in it) with a real use is something to start with.
Also the current Siege system should be reworked to something more reasonable, not just like ''this one has to die'' because someone sleeped bad.
Starfield Launches next month live and i believe this is the most epic space game ever to hit the public where
the devs actually listened to the community and made a game how the players would love to play it and so far
it looks awesome to some insights i was given to the new game.
Why stay here work your ass off for years on a project do the background forum work and in game try to help many new players to stay for "things" can not even classify them as humane
that i only have a derogatory names for that is not allowed to be mentioned here
I have talked to many players in game and they would like to give those "things" a brick for a face if they meet them in the street that is how intense the hate towards those "things" escalated on this server now if many people good people soft hearted people start to feel like this where is the fault ??????????
A great number of this servers population has grown stale from these "things" gameplay and crap that they cause here.
Its just not worth it to stay here anymore not if admins and devs allow this kind of crap on the server im sure if people should draw up a petition against those things more then 1/2 the server pop will vote for them to be permanantely banned.
Many are also to scared to say anything about the truth here cause who ever does gets banned or silenced or posts removed or run off the server in game if they talk about.
I have lost many new friends i made because of these "things" they just said sorry we did not come back to discovery for this "S@#$%^&T" <- high English translation of defication.
I vote for bases to be immune to ship attacks and only admins can destroy a base if it is in proper role play at least 1000 pages long see if they will then put in the effort to have a base destroyed because they 1 line in ship attacks just as they 1 line on the forum against bases.
if a persons base is 1 year old you have to put at 365 posts why the base is a thorn in your side and not by your mates or friends you alone .......
match the effort in productive effort put into making something nice for other people to use not just for destruction and because you get a sick kick out of grieving other people
Other people here mentioned they saw no Role as to proper reason to this bases demise in Omega 11 and i cant agree more.
I been here not 2 odd years back from being gone +/- give a few.
Not once in that time and i spend a lot of time in the omegas and a lot of time online not seen 1 not F@#$%^ [RHA] in Dresden Omega 55 Omega 48 Omega 11 Rheinland Cologne not ONE ......
2 lines OORP BASE ATTACK i counted 18 [RHA] ships in one night in omega 11
throuhg those years i met maybe 1 or 2 indie hessians ????
Where the back ground story where the time and effert spent building up a story last time it was my base in delta corsairs working with Nomads destroying a zoner base i mean WTF
arent Nomads and Corsairs enemies ????
Then some suck out the thumb nomads attacked my friends base in delta ????
Whos base is next whos hard earned work time and effortto make somehting nice for all players to enjoy gone poof something you worked on and towards to in years some ass just come poof in a couple of days and the server authorities just sit back and do nothing ........
How much louder must the general public speak before you listen?
