MacRory’s Irregulars is a Freelancer ID flying faction, focused primarily on RolePlay, trading and smuggling. Joining as a combat pilot is possible, you can fly escort for the traders, but since our goal is to be the universal trade partners for both lawful and (on the hush hush) unlawful organizations, bounty hunting and other PvP oriented gameplay doesn’t really suit our style. If you want to join as a combat pilot, keep in mind most combat will probably be PvE one, focused on getting the resources our customers need (MilSal etc…). In addition to our RP goals we have one OORP one. We aim to be a newbie friendly faction which you can join when you’re new around here, so you can learn the ropes of the game, learn how to roleplay, and make some money while you’re at it so you can eventually buy the big ship you want.
IRP Description
On the surface, MacRory’s Irregulars are nothing more than a collective of independent traders, who are trying to leverage better transport contracts through their ability to offer larger scale shipments than an individual freelancer could. While this is certainly true, it’s also largely a facade for the authorities, put in place to cover the true purpose of the Irregulars, because under the surface, the goals of the organization are quite a bit different. The truth is, the MacRorys are aware that even larger numbers aren’t enough for them to reasonably compete with transstellar corporations in the shipping business. That’s why, true to their origins, Irregulars will trade with anyone who offers a good price. They will buy gold from Mollys, sell highly demanded cargo to Corsairs, or supply an illegal base if that's what gets them profit.
History
MacRory’s Irregulars have roots in a small group of traders and smugglers, started by the brothers MacRory, Finnean and Lachlan, in late 830 AS. The original purpose of the group was dirtside distribution of the goods and contraband brought by Finnean to New London in his trusty ship Ol’Reliable. The Pulse severely hampered the group’s plans, since some of the most profitable routes Finnean used became unavailable for one reason or another. It took almost two years before the group was operating under its pre-Pulse capacity. For another year the group prospered, its reach on planet New London slowly increasing, until they ran into a bottleneck caused by the fact that one ship can only haul only so much. It was at that point when Lachlan finally convinced his brother to push for serious expansion, not only in number of ships, but in a scope as well. But since pilots - and especially pilots capable of navigating outside of the planet's atmosphere - are hard to come by, Irregulars had to look for new recruits outside of their home county on Planet New London.
Home Base
While planet New London can still be considered a "home base" of sorts for the Irregulars, they have recently put up an installation of their own. Called Cape Horn Foundry, it's meant as a storage and refinery facility for some of the rarer materials not easily purchased on the regular market. Its location is not publicly disclosed and the station is still in it's building phase. On top of the refineries and storage modules, the Irregulars also plan to eventually outfit it with extra living space and some entertainment facilities not only for the people working there but also for the captains and crew who fly the group's transports.
Current leaders
Mellony "Mel" Travers
The daughter of an ex-con, Mel Travers grew up under the churning gears of industry in the Houston System. After the death of her father, and seeing the oppression of the Libertonian people by the Liberty government, Mel briefly turned radical and joined the Xenos. Despite this, her friends and family still welcomed her back into the Junker fold after she saw the error of her ways. Once access to the Puerto Rico system was lost during the 831 jump hole blip, Mel struck out to seek her fortune outside Liberty space and found the Irregulars. Lachlan was hesitant to trust her at first, due to her brash nature, but repeated success with the MacRory brothers landed her a spot in leadership. Still hot-headed and passionate to a fault, Mel stepped into the position of Coordinator once Lachlan stepped down in 834.
Mel is currently the Coordinator of Negotiations and is in charge of communicating with clients, cutting deals, and is largely the current public face of the Irregulars. She and her crew can often be seen aboard the Cadillac Ranch, helping the Irregulars with various operations.
Tommy Epsetti
A young Libertonian that started his Freelancer career only a couple of years before the founding of MacRory's Irregulars, Tommy Epsetti quickly rose through the ranks of Irregulars with his dedication and commitment to the job. But dedication alone wasn't enough when dealing with vast network of traders and smugglers that the Irregulars routinely work with. A specific mindset and unorthodox diplomacy skills were needed for that position, which Tommy felt he lacked, so he stepped into the role of Coordinator of Operations which he felt the role would suit him better, rather than taking charge of communications and negotiation for the various contracts the Irregulars take in. His cybernetic augmentations regularly help him in dealing with everyday routines and the leading of specific operations and data, for which an un-augmented human would require help of others.
As Coordinator of Operations, Tommy takes a more unseen back seat role to Mel's more forward facing role in the Irregulars, which he greatly prefers. Tommy oversees the more technical side of the Irregulars, seeing to everything from inventory management to system codes, security, and base management.
Founders
Finnean "Finn" MacRory
Finnean is the older of the two brothers MacRorys. Born in a rural county in New London, Finnean saw a job for a corporation as a way to escape the poor region he grew up in, so he sought employment for BMM since his 18th birthday. He eventually got it, though his dreams of interstellar travel received a large hit when he only qualified for a shuttle license. He ferried passengers between planet and orbit for more than a decade, even though he was eventually able to obtain the interstellar pilot license. His luck turned for the best when he won a serenity class transport in a game of poker. The ship turned out to be a mixed blessing at first, but eventually enabled Finn to finally become a successful independent trader in the Sirius sector and establish MacRory’s Irregulars with his brother.
He is currently retired from working with the Irregulars and is exploring parts unknown in Sirius. Perhaps he can still be found in the deep regions of the Omega and Omicron systems.
Lachlan MacRory
The younger of brothers MacRorys Lachlan is always ready for some scuffle and has a keen eye for opportunity. When his older brother became capable of transporting cargo across the stars, Lachlan saw the potential. He convinced Finn to bring some… unusual shipments to New London and then proceeded to distribute the contraband on the planet. He eventually built a network of like minded individuals who helped him move and sell the cargo. When it became apparent that one transport can no longer satisfy the demand, he suggested to his brother they should expand. Finn agreed but in turn insisted Lachlan will take responsibility for obtaining any commodity which can’t be easily purchased.
Lachlan is still currently the defacto head of MacRory's Irregulars, although he spends most of his time now in a managerial role while residing on Planet New London. All of the Irregulars' operations still run through him, and he oversees the original >MRI< base of operations and warehouses on New London.
Structure
1, Coordinators
The two coordinators are responsible for leading the Irregulars. The positions of Head of Negations and Head of Operations are currently held by Mel Travers and Tommy Epsetti respectively.
2, Inner circle
Below the coordinators there is the Inner circle, a group of trusted associates who serve as advisors and ‘lieutenants’ for the coordinators. They can actively negotiate contracts for the group or plan requisition operations, but any “risky” endeavor must be first approved by the relevant coordinator.
3, Members
Pilots who prove their reliability and trustworthiness are accepted as full members of the Irregulars and can mark their callsign or ship’s name with the group’s signature tag. They can actively participate in any contracts and requisitions available. They can scout for contracts but cannot negotiate them on behalf of the group. Any such negotiations have to be passed to the Inner circle or Coordinators.
4, Afilliates
Those are the new recruits, untested, unproven. They are usually given a few tasks to complete, so the leadership can assess their skill and cunning as well as their loyalty. They are not allowed to use the group’s tag. Most pilots do not remain associates for long. They either prove their mettle and are promoted to full members or fail their trials and wash out.
Diplomacy
Cautious
Nomads and known nomad sympathizers. We do not attack on sight but we do not do business with them and we give them a wide berth.
Love the writeup, it seems like a nice FL organisation that balances between legal and illegal, which is a favourite when it comes to being a freelancer. I do have a character that might fit actually, will get back to you with that!
But really, good luck mate!

Thanks, glad you like it. I sure do hope this faction gets some traction
