Abadan, born Michael Harker, was raised on starships and was from a young age fascinated by space and it’s infinite possibilities. He was born in 793 on a Shetland Class transport named Numina Three, that usually worked in House space.
A rather calm childhood, save for encounters with Pirates, he grew up with a love for starships and the prospect of exploration.
He was schooled onboard by his parents, a father named Richard, who was the chief engineer of the Numina and his mother Cathryn who was the finance administrator.
From a young age he showed some promise in both fields of work of his parents and quickly picked up on things that his parents showed him.
In his teens he became tired of living in the same environment, day after day, year after year, he began expressing his desire for something new to his parents, but both were very happy with their jobs. So, Michael, with no choice in the matter, remained onboard the Numina, but while there he began to be instructed in ship operations.
Despite his dream of leaving the confines of the Numina, he continued his education and was mentored by a number of officers on the ship. After a few years he had learnt the basics of most stations on the ship, some better than others.
The Numina avoided most conflicts, during the time of the “Nomad situation” and the war between houses, they mostly kept to the safety of Bretonia.
When Michael turned 22 in 815, he left the Numina and his parents to pursue his own interests, at first he did minor jobs as an engineer on New London and idled there for a year or two. In 817 he got a job as an engineer onboard the Series "DL" Border Worlds Transport “Orion’s Fortune”, the contract was for 6 months, but he got what he wanted, to explore and see new things. The Orion has a well trained and generally good crew, the Captain, Henry Marks, was a solid captain who often praised Michael for his skills and dedication to his work.
But, after the contract ended he ended up on Freeport 1 but didn’t find any jobs he wanted there, so he booked a ship back to Bretonia.
Eventually, he found himself working with some, less than friendly people, he did some administration and accounting for these individuals, they made high demands and showed Michael a glimpse of the underworld of Bretonia. After a few months he realised he had been working with both Molly’s and corsair contacts, it became apparent when the Police raided his apartment on New London.
He spent 6 months in prison for helping his former employers, during which he spent most of his time studying or just casual reading. As his release date approached he decided to change his name, covering his old life with a new identity.
In 1819 he signed up with a mercenary outfit for some experience in piloting, they taught him the basics and brought him along on some bounties, before letting him off to work solo for them. He wasn’t the best fighter pilot, but the two years with them taught him a couple of things. It was his first close contact with actual space combat, sure, on both Numina and Orion he had been in fights, but he never had an active role in those situations, just a bystander basically. At first, the fear was overwhelming, but eventually, it became a rush for Abadan and he almost longed for a good firefight.
He eventually left the outfit and ended up in Liberty; he had made some contacts and allies during his last few years. Even a few from his prison days.
He had saved enough money to get his own ship, a EL-HiL27 "Rhino" Liberty Freighter and returned back to the life of a trader, but this time, he was free to go where he wanted and that feeling of freedom was what kept him going.
He picked up a couple of crew, Magnus and Anita. Together they travelled and explored, seeing new things. And, at times had some good parties on new stations and worlds.
Both of them had little experience in having their own ship, but they learned quickly. And thanks to Abadan’s experience as a mercenary, they could survive some nasty incidents with pirates, despite having a sub-optimal ship for firefights..
Anita and Abadan became an item, working so close for so long sort of just made it natural to link to some kind of feelings for each other. But it was a little more than just that, they shared a lot of views on the universe and had similar interests, besides the life of a trader.
That’s how they spent almost 6 years together, just flying their little freighter. They had made some good cash during these years, saving up for an upgrade to their little Rhino.
They began to call contacts and friends they’d made during the years and eventually, they got a tip for an old transport that had been salvaged by Junkers at Trafalgar Base.
When they arrived, they saw the transport moored outside. And it was a piece of junk, but it had charm. The Junkers offered to sell them it, for rather large sum of money.
The ship had parts from all over Sirius, Reinland engine drives, a Kusari powercore and Bretonian computers. As Anita and Abadan toured the ship, they saw how much work would have to be put in to get this thing in optimal shape.
But, the deal was made and they moved the ship, with help from a tow ship, to the closest shipyard for repairs and refit. They noticed that the engine drive couldn’t be removed, without costing them millions, so, they kept them. The rest would just take time.
Six months and many millions of credits later, their ship was ready.
They christened their new ship “The Arcadia Bay”, but it was just the beginning. Next on the list, they needed a large crew to man the Arcadia. For weeks they spent their time with their noses in applications, but with some time, they managed to find 100 crew members to work onboard the Arcadia.
And just a few weeks ago, The Arcadia Bay left their mooring and ventured out into Sirius. To explore, trade and live free, it was a new start for the crew and it’s two owners.
The Arcadia Bay
The Arcadia Bay, ah, this.. Junk of a ship, is actually a splendid example of how Junkers are able to repair and outfit ships quite competently and given enough resources and credits, The Arcadia was rebuilt in about six months.
Armed with several Transport turrets, of which are 2 Heavier EMP Turrets.
Extremely thick armor plating.
Capital Thrusters.
Large Deep Scanner.
They even have a hangar bay, with a sole CTU-7f Civilian VHF.
Anita was born on Manhattan 31 years ago, born into a life of military, both parents were Navy officers, one of which even were in command of a Liberty "Archer"-class Siege Cruiser, unfortunately she lost both her parents in an ambush, Anita decided not to follow her parents footprints. She found herself working for more nefarious clients. Her skillset was that of a hacker and her skills were noticed. For a couple of months she did jobs for several criminal elements of Liberty, but when she found out her client had used the information she had found to murder the man. She quit, and that was around when she met Abadan. And the rest is the present. She is the second in command and communications officer.
