Doc Holliday has literally been a staple of Discovery RP, along with Med Force. Doc Holliday has done better RP than anyone currently in staff. Doc Holliday hasn't, however, posted a giant rant about how there's no more RP in the server and everyone is a pvper and everythings going to hell because of bittervets and oldfags, and then followed it up by shooting someone on his side of a fight because he thought "they were taking too long to die".
I don't know what beef you decided you have with Holliday, but man up and put it down. Put on your big boy pants, step off of the fake sanction. Apologize to Doc and to the community for this pathetic stunt you pulled.
The irony is that in the context of that image, the GRN player was shooting at a Dagger on our side that would've lived forever because he was shieldrunning. So we all came to the conclusion to execute him and save the GRN player some time, who was, by the way, doing zero damage. That image is just ragebait removed of context because "le blue stolen )))):"
As for """""GOING AFTER DOC HOLLIDAY""""""", nobody did. It was just a matter of consistency, especially since he is staff. It was a 5 second discussion. "We are enforcing the name rule finally, let's enforce it to everyone". This is the first time it's ever actually been done at this scale so there'll probably be some misjudgements such as this one (in my opinion here). The issue is, if there's an exception for Doc, who else gets one? We don't want to be unfair to anybody. This was the thought process. It's also just a no-time-limit warning, for the record. Nobody is getting banned over this. Doc probably isn't even aware it's happening yet, and that's okay, as nobody is hurrying him. That's all.
L\ is a terrible 0 rp faction though ur right about that lmao
It is incredibly foolish to request the DOC to change its name. This person is considered a legend when he appeared on Discovery. I have a question regarding a roleplay with someone named Magnus-One, why hasn't he been warned? He sad that was his name and surname in game. Admins, please set an example for the community.
I've not seen the film Tombstone, so maybe that's why I never saw Doc Holliday (as a name, not the player here) as a problem. My immersion in the Sirius Sector was never broken.
It was broken when I came across a furry Liberty captain one time. That's why we have rules like this to enforce.
Other imports such as the The.Joker and his Thugs was technically rule breaking but that guy gave a lot of players some of their best experiences on this server.
This was all at a time of having Star Wars, Homeworld and other such imports though so maybe the vibe was different I'll admit.
I'd say let Doc keep the name. Has anyone actually complained about it?

stop going after names that barely reference anything/are basically the same as real names/nicknames and instead just keep going after gamer nametags and the Darth Vaders and John Spartans of the world
this sudden domineering crackdown on what was generally harmless or amusing is stupid. and as i said before, it is WAY too late to try and pretend you give a shit about this being a super serious roleplay server. and honestly if it was, it wouldnt even be enjoyable to play on anymore. (not that it is LMAO)

To be completely honest, I'd much rather not have posted that sanction. It's not like I get any pleasure out of telling a veteran, whose character is almost universally appreciated by the playerbase, that they need to change up the character's name. Several people rightfully pointed out that we had a bit of a rules for thee but not for me situation enforcing the naming rule the way we did, and I don't much love the idea of conveniently exempting a staff member from the rules.
For what it's worth, I do stand by the Dylan Hunt sanction. It's a straight import - picture and profession included - not unlike naming a character "Captain Jean-Luc Picard". The only real difference is that Andromeda is probably a lot less popular than TNG. If that goes, anything goes, really.
I'll see if the staff can discuss and resolve this situation today.

I don't think it's about making an exception for Doc, and the fact that he's a Mod is absolutely irrelevant, in this particular situation. I would do exactly the same with Dylan Hunt, or similar cases. Simply, before warning any player and asking him to change their name, I would ask myself (and investigate) if he or she are a character that has been established for years, and if there is a long career in RP behind him. Especially if it's been years and years since that character has that name.

I think it would be useful to consider including a deadline for this particular violation of 1.4 rule to "expire." That is, if over a certain number of years no one has reported you, no one has been affected, and no one has noticed that you have named your character in something that comes from pop culture, that is no longer can apply rule 1.4 on this specific character. In this way, cases of this type of characters that have been consolidated for quite some time could be treated, and that it's obvious they haven't harmed the RP in any way because in years no one has complained about them.
Seriously, applying rules without context and forgetting why they exist is a very effective way for rules to turn against what they protect.

We do care, actually, and always have, we just never got around to it because we've always had so many other things to do and if you want to properly enforce it you need to do it consistently until it stops happening. If we did it earlier we'd have gotten the same response. The Saronsens and Greylocks would've posted "but what about Doc Holliday? Is he exempt from this rule because he's a moderator?" (a question that had already been asked by some people after Dylan Hunt's warning, by the way) and we would've been in the same place. The staff team should be held to higher standards than the community. In this case, it was a one-second decision that made perfect sense at the time, almost entirely because Doc is staff. That's all there is to it. There is no Staff Bias Shadow Cabal or Staff Anti-Bias Shadow Cabal or Staff Anti-Doc-Holliday Shadow Cabal. The majority of people have been pleasantly calm about it and simply posted their disagreements, which we all ended up agreeing with. This is just about the most minor thing someone could rupture their synapses over. It's not that deep.
This stuff is not another nail in to discovery coffin, it is a bunch of it. people are forgetting that this is in the future ... this is what can happen to humans in one thousand years, don't forget the world was already split in two factions, and recent events we are returning to something similiar. so it is very normal a guys called John that is also a doctor, get his life inspiration on a guy with the same name that lived over one thousand years ago. I also stand for dylan that it is even his real name. what's the problem? why so picky? you want to end this game? just unplug the server. just want a few selected people? make it private. what's the problem with so names that are or were used in this human history? i have two ships that i named for some reasons, that are the same names of characters or movies and stuff like that ... it is not because of that i named then. should i changed? hell F not! there is a good reason for it so what is the problem? for some time i made a rp ... it was crap but at leat it was a rp and much better than some "experts" and and the nameswas inspired on the games/movie that has the same name of one ship, but no longer use then, and it was because the name of the ship I was inspired, and those ships are named for their characteristics ... i can even say their names, i have no problem, one is Angry_Bird and it is named like that because itis a fighter and the ship model is named after a bird, the Eagle. I also have a Big_BIrd and it is not named after a big yallow muppet, but because it is a big ship and the model of that ship it is a bird, the Peregrine. In what this is againts the rules? i don't know but if doc and dylon are so this ones are also, and in what harms or offend someone? in nothing.
but also if this stuff is against the rules, so are the names of the model of some ships must also change. For example the liberty "Avenger". It is name of several tv series, movies and comics. So it must change. it may not be related but i don't care. Many players had to change their chars names because that rule, like Xenor recently did, and i bet they weren't related.
Come on ... what is your problem? The community is dying for so many motives, and you guys are doing this type of inquisition?

except no i wouldnt have and have made that pretty clear
i take offense that you think anyone thinks like i do as well
all i care about is this going down the very real slippery slope of policing anything remotely out of some arbitrary line of whats RP and whats not, and we can already see it in the name changes
while i dont give two shits about nobodies i wont see ingame its already shaping up to be the Fun Police and next comes names that are funny or humorous because theyre not super duper serious! military names or super duper edgy names for pirates
youre looking at the trees and not even seeing them in the first place, stop being dumb.
I disagree with trying to get Doc Holiday to rename his character. At this moment I have a character named Stoner Steve Squigs, which in itself is stolen from a web comic series, but I used a different image to represent the character, so is this now not allowed? Along the same thought process, I routinely use Warhammer 40k photos to represent my characters, is this also a violation of the rules?
The marker of "Unique" and "Original" is a tough one to meet/follow especially given how many people exist in general. Even something as unique as my first, middle, and last name. In my own country, has well over 10,000 people who share my "unique" name. There has to be an expectation of overlap. I don't hear the name Doc Holiday ingame and think of a gun slinging fighter from a black and white movie series. I think of Doctor Holiday, a medical professional and part time ambassador.
