Hmmm, I have an idea. To stop SN spamming could we make a torpedoe turret?

Make it level 6. No ships use that right?

Or do transports...? If they do, increase the eneergy so high transports can't fire it, and let a class of light gunboat/torp ship use em, give it a high energy count and Voila! a non SN spamming ship....

I see your guys point. After posting this I also read around a little bit more... about the capitol ships.... *sighs* any-who, one of the reasons that I brought this up is because I sort of miss seeing the epic battles where two ships turn broad side to each other and there are fighters going every which way... but I digress.

I was surprised to get this quick of a response. 9 replies in 6 hours, that's more user activity than my clan's forum. Though, I'm wondering why you guys haven't touched on the idea of the MAC cannon. If I didn't make it clear, the MAC cannon is a slightly different idea, yes it was for a torpedo ship, but that type of weapon is not impossible in the Discovery universe. Any thoughts?

A MAC gun? Hmm, a railgun right? You'd need a lot of room in RP to store the ammo, I have seen some mods out there with something like MAC guns. They kick out rocks or asteroids, pure hull busters.

I wouldn't mind seeing a MAC gun, as long as you cannot combine it with an Inferno cannon on the same ship, otherwise its a pure capital destroyer.:unsure:

Well, I agree that it would be nice indeed. Unfortunately, as far as controls are concerned, the big ships are just humongous fighters. The controls FL has lack in terms of making them behave properly in their flight pattern, hence not seeing such epic battles between warships.

In the end, that's what goes in the infocard only, the important part are the stats for the weapon. However, the idea in itself, coming from another popular game may not be widely accepted as eligible to add to the mod, consider the overall aversion to importing even more things from outside.

...hey wait! Isn't there a Homeworld 2 ship floating around somewhere? And aren't those Viper MKII from Battlestar Galactica? They've only taken one or two things from a different story, why not one from Halo? I'm not asking for a ship (though it would be nice) just one of the guns.

This was touched on by me the other day, the reply was, we are working on murdering the imports with new fresh ships our local designers made. The only reasons the Battlestars and Vipers are around is because the =CR= faction are dug in like WWI trench soldiers.

There are many unique ships on the way I think, the imports are being phased out.

I was going to bring up the MAC gun wouldn't get a good initial reception since it derives from Halo as Gronath said, we want to be unique and fresh without relying on other peoples ideas.

In the end though, we are going to run out of ideas that this game engine can use without crying and making ion storms out of its rectum.

I don't think the community will ever run out of useble ideas. As Gronath said, there are over 9,000 registered users, someone is bound to have ONE bright idea right? Right?

Oh no I don't mean we will run out of ideas, never meant that, its just that the Freelancer game engine is EXTREMELY picky at times. I heard that it crashes because a certain ship isn't built right or one code is out of place. We will always have new ideas, part of our humanity, but being able to use them is another issue that this game graces us with.
