Well ... none of my vessels have cap armor upgrades ... BUT ... I'm seriously thinking about these upgrades with all the Bounty Hunters hunting pirates in battle cruisers and battleships. We really don't need them against those WE target since they're usually in transports and freighters. But if these capship Bounty Hunters keep showing up to attack us ... we're gonna do whatever we can to survive.
Incidentally ... here's probably a more fitting discussion ... transports with cap armor upgrades. Now isn't that interesting. The only thing preventing smaller ships from having these things is the size of their cargo holds. Cap armor upgrades take up about 300 units of cargo space. If you get those uber-traders with their larger than a planet transports ... yeah ... they tend to mount these. Especially those container transports with 12 turrets. Seems some of these traders have converted their container transports into a poor-man's battleship. Yup ... they actually go in pairs and engage pirates in these things.
Chew on that for a while.

Would be nice to have gunboat class armour, cruiser class armor, battleship class armor etc. but again, not sure if that's quite necessary.
Have to say though, cap8 on a BH gunship is a bit ridiculous.
Gunboats would not need these if Bounty Hunters would stop hunting in uber-caps.
I'm afraid to take on a mk8'd Gunship in my Osiris. 1 on 1 I win, but not without heavy damage, even a single aditional bomber can spell disaster for me... Those things are horibly small... It's really a case of, not much you can do situation... but that ballance issue doesn't have much to do with cap armors...
Simply any target that small can dodge shots at 1.4k distance, even with battleship like projectile speeds... It's simply game mechanics...

A bomber and a gunboat should not be a fair fight but, most times it is. A gunboat's very purpose is to smack those strike craft so, if a bomber has a hard time killing a gunboat I have no sympathy.
You want hard try flying a gunboat against a bomber of equal experience.
Besides the more armor you have the less room you have for loot so there is a trade off.
The gunship is getting fixed. Its a shame the turrets are being nerfed, all it needed was a hit box fix.
If small = less power then what in the heck are bombers fireing the Supernova for? Or a better question how is it that the bigger the tech the less functional it is.
I real life the challenge seems to be minitureization not gargantuization. However the inverse is true here.
Armor is fine. Just fix the hit boxes and all will be well. The armor already cost more than a battleship and is in my opinion worth more than a battle ship.
Being that battleships have limited play, acceptance, mobility, and ussually indicate weak RP.(cynicism) When I can afford to smack cap armor 8 on my gunboats I will. Why cause gunboats are the largest most playable ship.
Not all of us want the Robotech, gundam wing, top gun feel. Some of us want the deliberate and calculated play of cap ships. Where skill is not measured in reflexes(physically) but in timeing, location, load out, and intelligence of threats. (mental challenges) Since dodgeing isnt an option normally.
Not all of us are young with cat like reflexes or great conections so capital ships let you take a more mental role. The only down side is you cannot play every part of the game a twitchy fighter jock can. Leave the armor alone. Cap ships have been casturated enough.
what you've got too understand is, BH's use BC's and we get moaned at for ''Whoring'' them, so a few of us buy the Gunboats and gunships and buy cap armour for them, so they still have a real good armour and not too get moaned at too much.

I thank you for that ... but there are still the BH's in BC's that hunt us pirates. And they always have the most devastating weapons and unbeatable armor. A lone gunboat has no chance ... we melt like a hot knife through butter. For this reason ... I could care less about the moans about gunboats using cap armor. Its a logical migration.
I was conflicted by the "cap armor" but I think it just should be "armor" and then the conflict isn't there so much.
Have two versions Just like now and just change the names.
Smaller ships mounting it lose proportionally more of their cargo space which is realistic and the armor is a multiplier and works from what's already there--that's realistic too.
The only real beef I have with the armor is MASS. It should increase the mass--decrease all maneuver and acceleration.
I dunno guys. It's hard to try and nerf mk8 armour on GBs, when nobody has any complaints about any other GBs than BHG GB using it. And since the BHG GB is going to become a massive target from the side next version, well, I think it's fine really.
