One of the things that I like about disco is the rules...
(the following are all true experiences from other servers):
+ dockraped by an eagle when i left manhatten for the first time
+ paid a tax to a pirate AND got destroyed
+ 6 eagles repeatedly cap-whored by 3 lib destroyers... in kusari
u think bulldognk's actions were bad? one server i played, THE WHOLE ADMIN TEAM WAS DOING THE SAME: /addcash; superimposing caps/eagles on starfliers; sitting there in admin-tags, waiting for a convoy to head out, then spawning right in front of kusari... the list goes on, and half of it is unbelievable.
without rules there is anarchy.
with rules, there are lawyers.
i prefer the lawyers, cos eventually, even the stupidest dog stops yapping.
My 2 cents:
There are a LOT of rules, some of which work really well, others are open to abuse and lead to many flame-infested sanction reports, which waste time.
a points system, like three strikes and you're out.
normally, points have a time limit (2 weeks? 2 months? until next time player list is cleaned up?)
however, when u reach 12points = incarceration (length of time determined by how far beyond 12 points). upon your release, your credits have been parcelled out to the injured parties, and your points are reset.
players can only be incarcerated twice, then banned.
1. Don't swear; it reveals a paucity of vocabulary.
2. Don't swear AT people, it gets them annoyed, and then they fire back at you, and before you know it, the whole thread goes down in flames.
3. Read the WHOLE of a post before replying.
I wasn't trying to drag up bulldog's actions; i was using them as a parallel, so that the examples i was using would be relevant for the frame of reference for my audience; to avoid the mistakes learnt in the past is to repeat them.
I WAS trying to suggest a solution to the rules-lawyering. How bout commenting on that part...
I did read the topic, But using BulldogNK is a bad exemple
On the server he whas a good admin, The only big problems where something between the admin's
itself
I have to be honest - all this "I'll sanction you" crap has put me off the game & I'm hardly ever on anymore. I also detest the casual rudeness displayed by some of the so called respectable elite here. As Fletcher points out we need to re-focus our aspirations.

Try not to let it put you off playing here Taffic. In a sense most games I've played online has what I term an "Enforcer" portion within its large community. They'll police when they shouldn't, out of role play off course.
I tolerate people private messaging and letting them know how and why they are breaking the rules, it helps slightly keep the peace and hopefully takes a load off the admins.
The flip side to that is however, they should know the rules anyway, not to mention people 'enforce' the rules on system chat and yell, a lot.
Sometimes sadly, some people just don't get the point of the rules, and it is sometimes best to eject them from the server, either temporarily, or permanently. Some people deserve to not play if they constantly break the rules.
Some people deserve a second chance, we are only human, I have made MANY mistakes in the past and I have learned from them thanks to the community not reporting me, or the admins decided not to sanction me. Thank God.
Finally, don't enforce the rules in the system chat, your not being paid or respected to do it. Its not your job.
Over the last month, I've been told that that's RULE LAWYERING. Fellow players have nagged my ear off.
What the hell is going on? Am I meant to report these people immediately without talking to them? Am I meant to have them banned without so much as a warning, or even letting them know what they've done wrong? Half of these people wouldn't even know how to find this forum to find out!
Vigilante players trying to enforce the rules is crap. This isn't Gotham City where a man can take the law into his own hands, the admins here are law, not us.
It isn't our job to police the server, but it IS our responsibility to report those that break the rules. Public whinging in system annoys everyone involved.
Players who don't use the forums (over 50% of law-breakers, I'd wager) won't recieve any warnings from the Admins, if such warnings are issued.
The admins don't want us informing players of the rules, and yet expect us to be their eyes and ears.
I dont like handing people into the cops who don't even realise they've done wrong.

It depends on the players personal opinion if they are being badgered/lawyered or informed about the rules being broken.
Some people take offense about it, some people appreciate pointing out their mistakes so they can still play. Some abuse the trust and report them for badgering them.
It depends from person to person, there is never a perfect way to help point out others mistakes without some taking offense.:(
