Here's an idea: Why not email Bill Gates about this issue anyways? I mean, sure he's retired, but he does still know the new CEO of Microsoft. After all, it's not like he would entrust the entire company of Microsoft to some random guy he barely knows anything about, right?
For example:
1: email Bill Gates.
2: get an actual reply since he isn't working at microsoft.
3: Bill Gates contacts CEO about FL source code
4: They ramble on (for an hour or so..) about possible gains/losses if they release the source code.
5: We get a definite yes/no answer.

Doesn't that seem simple enough?
Yeah, do it.
I wrote a really funny FL story, but it disappeared when the old forum went away. So, no lulz for you today.
This is amazing all the work you guys are doing.... and all the unhelpfulness we're getting. I think it'll work though, just keep trying, and don't give up! I'll look around for anything else we could possibly do.
Nice try but this is never going to happen, it's not simply about money it's about setting a precedent, if Microsoft release source code for one of its applications then what about the rest? does this extend into other ares like operating systems? never ever going to happen. The enthusiasm of communities like this are of no interest to Microsoft or any other software suppliers because there's nothing in it for them.
No luck from my brother. He says that Microsoft Game Studios apparently doesn't have a say in releasing the source code and that it's higly unlikely that Microsoft ever will release it. He said that it'll set a bad precedent because if they give out the source code when people really want it, other people who really want it might start asking and it'll also discourage them from making new games because with the source code out, people can just edit and create new versions of an old game, which will lower their desire to buy a new game. Also, it prevents Microsoft from making a remake of old games if they ever feel like doing it.
