DeiSol I don't think you're understand this, there is no other way unless someone writes an application specific import/export protocol for that application.
Milkshape is the only way to get our gear in game.
So far your arguments make absolutely no sense, and I'm trying to be understanding and help you.
What is it you're trying to say? The sourcecode for the original CMP importer is available online, Milkshape is simply the easiest platform to develop it for, and the least proprietary of the options available..

Make a series of CMP, 3db and SUR importers and exporters for 3ds Max, Metasequoia, Maya, and so on and so forth, and THEN we'll all stop using Milkshape. Believe me, most of us hate it, too, but it isn't going to go away just because we don't like it.

One day I thought "wtf is with all these homeworld, babylon, Star Trek, Star Wars, Archimedean Dynasty (SUBMARINES) and other rip-off ships..."
so I decided... "I'll learn some 3-D modelling and eventually come by and fix this mess"
I look at the tools available...
I see that Blender has a very revolutionary interface, that is easy to learn, and is simultaneously an exceedingly powerful modeling tool, considering that its also freeware.
I take my time to learn Blender, and then...
I get out there, and go "wtf, world?"
