The regular Pat/Lib's are made by the LPI - It makes sense that if the LSF or LN need a light fighter theyd make modifications.

Umm...hate to break it to you guys, but 20K polys is way too much. Hell, the last Battleship I made was about 3K polys, and Yuri screamed when he saw that one. A fighter should be about half of that. This COULD be done. COULD. but it would take an excessive amount of work. Also, replacing a vanilla ship is unprecedented. If you want to make an additional fighter, but replacing the vanilla models or their MK II versions is unlikely at best and really I'd think to keep it that way.
