how about a flare that makes you visible on radar from 20/30k away for 30s with no visual effects? refire rate 3mins?
scenario 1.
pirate has found a trader with a GB escort, and needs his bomber friend to come punch holes in it. sends off flare, and is visible to bomber. Trader and GB are unaware that the falre has been sent, as they already have the pirate on scanner range.
pirate just has to keep cd'ing the trader and avoiding GB until bomber arrives.
scenario 2.
trader has been stopped by a pirate, and is calling in reinforcements. flare is sent without pirates' knowledge. trader just has to keep stalling/rp'ing until help arrives.
scenario 3.
fighter patrol encounters an order/pirate cruiser in liberty space. not having the firepower to take it on, he fires off the flare and keeps the ship in range until cap/bomber support arrives
even if a ship's on scanners you cannot locate it until its within 10k's
So if you did it so you could see its location then maybe
15k isn't a visual limit... you can see a sun from 100s of k, why not just make it a sun with no damage and dies within a couple of seconds, and very small.
then again... the firework displays would probably lag it out
Sounds pretty good, but might be a bit of a buzz killer in a dogfight since no-one can probably see anything. And it would be a perfect oppertunity for people to super spam them in completley irrelevant locations.
Perhaps if you could set a maximum/minimum visual range for example you can only see it from a range of >10k and <80k.
...and only allow a maximum of 3 or 5 flares to be carried.

It's possible to increase the visual and radar range from 15k up to a distance of your choice (it's an exe hack), but unless that's done, this idea seems pretty unfeasible.

hm... maybe the "Flare" would cause a Green Ship icon to appear on the Nav Map, and then Group members Green icons would become Pink (like their target color).
Or even how about its a FLHook hack, for type "/flare" and it does that, and costs 2,000$ to fire it, has a life of 25 seconds, and can't be fired again for 3 minutes.
And you can't fire more than 5 without going to dock (restock?) afterwards.
