If they refused it then why not a super huge repair ship basically.

Limit its guns so its not a ubernaught war ship but give it like gunboat guns or transport cannons and uber Bots and bats to supply a fleet with.

Yet not be a poppable as a repair ship.

Do you realise the amount of testing & balancing that'd need to go into player docking? It'd bring a whole new aspect to the game. The balance team are working their collective behinds off to get 4.85 into a fully balanced order, now if we allow fighters to restock mid-fight, have super-heavy ships that're hard to kill and allow folks to refuel ... it'd ruin a lot of stuff.

If you want 4.85 to be out sometime this century, then player docking has to be put on hold ...

... In my opinion.

In the past I played a game called Start Trek StartFleet Command.
There you could command carriers, buy fighters, launch them, control to who they could attack. Fighters were AI (like NPC's in freelancer)
I honestly thing that making Carriers dockable is useless, since no player wants to be docked, they just want to play. However it would be fun to have a carrier, and be able to launch fighters/bombers NPC's against a specific target.

Even further, it would be great to be able to actually buy each fighter/bomber, incl actual equipment.
For example now a nice VHF costs around 2mill. + more if adding nice weapons, armor increase, etc.

Any idea if this is possible ?

Atleast give it Cruiser guns then.
Or nerf the crap outa their cost.

Uh... no, we're not nerfing carriers down to gunboat firepower.

Because they cannot actually launch ships, and that capability is reserved for roleplay purposes, carriers are given equivalent power to other ship types that match their size.

For example, the liberty carrier - it's larger than most battleships, so it's got battleship guns and armor level. For all game mechanic purposes, it is just another battleship; in RP you can act out launching craft, or simply have players in fighters/bombers RP as your ship's flight wing. That's what I plan to do when I get my carrier in 4.85.

The Order's Light Carrier (to be added in 4.85, hopefully) is not as large, and is classified as a battlecruiser: meaning it has cruiser-level shields and weapons, but a larger number of turrets and more armor than other cruisers, placing it's firepower/armor level inbetween cruisers and battleships.

I said that if dockable is not a option and for what ever reason it looks that way, THEN why not make it a super huge repair ship. IE: LOTS of bots and bats, to support a fleet that would be traveling with it.

I suggested reduce it fire power down to gunboat because it could then mount like 12 gunboat turrets and have like 5000 bots/bats and support a fleet with repairs(support) while not going down under the first volley.

But on the same token not become the UBER assault battleship that out matches any battle ship by vertue of regens.

Just a ship powerful enough to feul it's fleet and repel fighter attacks.

Because despite having 100+ players on the server 24/7, people are only rarely able to work in large groups here. You shouldnt force a decent ship class into uselessness because they cant find other ships to travel with.

And it would still be a larger target than any gunboat in the mod. The liberty assault carrier is larger than any other battleship in the mod, perhaps with the exception of the rheinland battleship (though i think it is bigger) - the only thing that actually makes it useful is the fact that it has more armor and more firepower than the liberty dreadnaught.

Likewise, the new order light carrier is the size of an osiris but has less armor and only cruiser level shielding, the only thing that keeps it up to par is a very large number (16 or 18, i think?) of cruiser turrets, making it about equivalent to a battlecruiser in power.



My question in response, is why do you want to change something (for the worse) that doesnt need to be changed? Carriers are fine as-is, with 4.85 we'll only have two of them in the mod - one for liberty and one for the order; one of those is a battleship, the other is a battlecruiser.

Dont fix what aint broke =)
