First, congrats about your mod,it really rocks, made me reinstall Freelancer after two years...
And really,I wasnt expecting such a good result.
Also,as a French man,I just can't wait for Gallia Space.Plus,I live in Burgundy IRL,so Im excited as a boy at christmas.
So,of course,I've told a bunch of my friends about it,and no one resisted. They're all like "when can I get it ? I want it" !
Only problem is that they're not that easy with english,so I thought I could translate the mod files, since there is a French vanilla version, only the mod text misses.
Of course,I could need a hand for technical issues, for instance adding the translated files to the original mod ones, without messing up the whole thing.Tell me if you're interested ; You'd make life easier for a lot of my countrymates;)

Well what you would need to do is replace the normal Discovery DLL with one that you have gone through and translated.
Freelancer stores all the readable in game text in DLL files. What you would need to do is use FLED-ids to open each and every discovery added to the game, and translate them. You would need to search each entry in the DLL. Freelancer refers to all text as 5 to 6 digit number whick represents the texts place in the DLL file and replace it with the proper translation. There are roughly 4000 numbers used by discovery. In addition you would need to make sure that you have proper formating.
You might want to form yourself a team for that task, it will be allot of work.
EDIT: I suppose I should add that if you friends do indeed have problems with english, you should also consider getting a french server. The main disco server operates in english and it would be very difficult for them to play even if you translate everything.
If you need help translating to make it go faster, don't be afraid to ask me. Languages are my forte (well, French and English are, since they're the only ones I know;)). Hm... just make sure your friends know not to post completely in french in system chat (obviously:laugh:).
P.S. I'm pretty excited for Gallia too, nice to see more french people. So far, I only know one other french person, not including you of course;)
THEY TOLD ME I COULD BE ANYTHING SO I BECAME A SIGNATURE PLS HLP
Well i started play disco i wasn't good in english... But since i leave in the UK and that I play disco RP server in forum and game... Well I guess it helps me to improve my language in english...
All right guys, thanks for your answers.I may get a team for that, since it looks a bit more complicated than I thought.
Concerning the system chat,I have not much worries about it,since they're okay with oral english, but I thought that some weird nouns (in both languages) like Jump hole or Trade Lane Ring may become problems if not translated.
Speaking a bad English will find a good RP solution with the arrival of Gallia,I guess, and I'm already training them to RP situations so that they don't get confused.
Also, thanks for your quick answers guys,I'll ask you whenever I need it.Feels good to have support:)

I can help, I'm french:Pfrom Quebec. I know the stuff about infocards and the ini work (working on those stuff atm.)
You will need, as said, to revamp the discovery.dll file to translate in french, It will take a HELL OF A LOT OF time although...
Also, if you plan to "distribute" a french version of the mod, you may need to ask Igiss for a green light.
I use the German Freelancer game version + the english mod, but in near future i want to switch to a complete english version because some faction names (various gas miners) are too similar. And yes, use the forum/game, and become better in the language.
