It's pretty easy to get out of. I phoned them, pretending to be my sibling, and told them that I was ill and won't be available. Didn't even ask for a doctors note or anything.
Skiveing Jury duty is illegal though IIRC, at least here it is.

I like this option. Where I live, we simply get our employer to send the court a letter excusing us on grounds that work is to busy and they need you there.
Duty. It is obligatory but is differed if you can't for some reason. It is up to the court for that discretion.
I wouldn't skip out unless I had a real reason. Jury duty is one of those things where you are directly effecting the fairness in the justice system. (even though people including myself berate it, it is a damn good system compared to the rest of the world.)

It should actually kind of be an honor.
I don't know so much. 12 other people deciding your fate. Are they objective, are they reasonable, are they educated enough in the law to deliver a fair verdict? Your piers ain't always that great, most probably dislike you for some or other reason and for that alone they would probably put you in jail or give you a death sentence. No thanks, I will go for an educated Judge who is objective enough to rule on the facts of the case and not emotion.

Right is subjective.
I put Jury Duty in the same bin as conscription.
Try me, and ill move to Canada, Mexico or the Seychelles if I must (for a mere $2m they wont extradite) so fast it'll make you're head spin.
Stupid government, always taking away rights but never giving them.
