If this were a fighter-only game I'd say yes, but you're talking about boning cap balance. Do you know how long a cap fight takes? Not long enough. You're talking about cutting our armor by 240%. I don't think so.

High-level upgrades are almost a requirement for competitive fighting vs. players and high-end NPCs, so I really don't see any reason to make people pay for them.

Don't forget your Coladas/Debs/Inferno!

Yeah, I agree with Admantine. I dont care how skilled you are, a mini razor shouldnt be able to hit a fighter. Torpedos, maybe if the fighter pilot is drunk or stoned.
But, Armor upgrades are the only type of ship upgrade this mod has, Nearly the only customization.
Some mods have engine and powerplant modification abillities. If we get rid of this we're ending a web of new designs and new battles.

I think you mean the SNAC, not the mini...
Oh, and torps are only really good if you shoot them off right in someone's face. If you get the timing right, they can be nasty.

I totally and uttely agree. Every damn fighter character I make, I have to run at least 2 trade routes (there and back), in order to have the slightest chance in PvP. Adding lower level fighter armor is just pointless...the only people using it are the ones that aren't gonna be in PvPs anyway...
Essentially, a combat-ready fighter no longer costs 2-3 mill, it costs 17-18 mill.

I'd suggest removing universal armour upgrades for small craft, but in exchange, boosting the base armour of every ship by 40% of their original base armour. This would remove the cost of the armour upgrade.
Also, an added benefit would be that traders would have to choose between cap armour or more cargo space, and capital ships will be unaffected, keeping their armour upgrades (since they tend to have the lowest longevity in a fight, which is wrong). Cap guns might have to be rebalanced again though to stop instakills of fighters when a whole salvo hits them, or simply to reduce their accuracy.
The removal of any armour would be quite fatal for balance issues, but it may work.
I too agree that PvP's last a little too long, but I do enjoy a good 2 hour session from time to time. Besides, even though the SN has dropped off my "effective weapons" list, I still do fairly well. Not well enough to last 2 hours though, unfortunately...
Fights tend to last longer depending on who your fighting, and even with the current vanilla weakness, the Eagle is one hell of a good agile VHF! So I'm not convinced we need to lose the upgrades.
