I have no real problem with it.
I just had an idea. And the more I think about it the mor I think it's quite good.
You could decide if you want to be highly armored .... or have a shield.
There may be more variety then. For me that sounds like an effective solution to the armor-problem a percantage of the community might have...
I for one would like to see that. As it is now you HAVE to buy an upgrade sooner or later, as it no
disadvantages and you might get blown into pieces if you don't. Might...
Can't almost believe people can live happy with it as it is.
Have you ever played Vanilla Freelancer online? That's how things were meant to work and that's how they should work. With a superstrong Disco bomber with 2.5x armor modifier, 100 nanobots and 100 shield batteries, you don't get any of that. In fact, all you'll get is boredom.
' Wrote:Considering PVP isn't quite my bag, and if I lose a PVP I'm off that ship for 4 hours, no, I do not think I should be easier to kill.
I'd rather like the chance to escape.
You're supposed to dodge the fire, not to take it. If you like watching health bars, maybe you should try LineAge 2 or any other stupid Korean mmorpg.
Even bombers can effectively dodge fire in Disco. It's terrible.
' Wrote:If you can, here's how to kill a bomber/fighter in less than three seconds.
Kill the shield with a mini razor.
Fire SN.
Takes skill. A LOT OF IT.
' Wrote:there are uber weapons like nukes, minirazors, supernovas etc. etc. which blow almost all fighters (SN completly all) after one hit without upgrade (poor vanila ships... they are blown with upgrade too)
It's funny bringing minirazors and supernovas here, because in my opinion they shouldn't be used against fighters in the first place. This however does happen, I see it quite often. And it's mainly because bombers are too tough which makes the combat extreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeemly long and people get tired. When fighting the bomber, you have to be very concentrated all the time because you never know when the SN/NT may hit you and that's very tiring. You can't afford to do a single mistake, which is nearly impossible. Because of the combat length.
But what if you're using a light fighter? It doesn't have any of these uber 1337 weapons, in fact it usually has a poor equipment.
Several times, I've fought fully armored bombers with my Phantom LF(usually armed with Hornvipers) and it was......pointless. There's no other word. It was pointless.
I don't ever want to be in such a fight again in my life. Ever. I'll rather F1 out of the game and get banned or something.

This has to be the funniest thought in this thread. Now please, do me a favour. Go and post this in every thread in this section that has something to do with balancing.

vFREELANCER values FTW!!!
And DODGE(not Dodge, the carmaker. They suck)
I mean
DODGE > TAKE
/signed..somewhat..at least on the bombers getting too much of a bonus on the multiplier.
Although 19000 is maybe too little for a bomber armour, the 50000 you get when you put on an mk VIII is way too much. Period.
And don't get me started on how bombers are too good than they should be when fighting against fighters. They should be the uber weapon against caps, but should be an easy picking for any fighter(they are in fact originally bomber interceptors, designed specially to kill bombers.)
<span style="font-familyalatino Linotype">
<span style="color:#000000">All morons hate it when you call them a moron.
To do at least a small step towards solving this I say:
Make the armor upgrades use the shield slot. So you have to choose. Use a shield and survive some hits without real damage or be heavily armored but get damage whenever you're hit.
There are shields with different capacities and there are armor upgrades with different strenght.
Et voil?...first step done towards balancing the ships a small bit plus adding more variety...

It's one of those 'don't fix it if it isn't broken' sort of things.
A way a lone a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay,
brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.
It sorta is broken. Not even on wow does a 1v1 pvp battle last as long as they do on disco. When i say armour should have a downside, I am not saying it should be debiliating. If it is there would be no point at all.
Actually I just had what I consider a bright idea. Why not have the armour upgrades take up your thruster slot? Speed burst vs. damage tanking. For this idea to work all caps would need thrusters, but it would not be unbalanced because a faster moving cap will have less armour anyway.

DODGE > TAKE
I'm not sure how telling me to be better at PVP negates my point that, being not the best PVPer, I'd like the opportunity to survive a fight.
Not everyone is excellent, and making autoguided missiles more powerful...
longer fights are more skillful fights, and less lucky ones. Minis, Novas, and torpedos, they're measures of talent, just as avoiding them are. I disagree with most every one of your points. Fights are better this way.
I'm leaning towards getting rid of Armor Upgrades, sort of. Though I haven't read all of this thread, I read a good bit.
Now, I'll explain my point. People say fighters and bombers take too long to kill, yes? Bombers take too long to kill, yes? Well, easy solution is to remove the Armor Upgrades, but that drops their hulls to only about 40% (I think) of their maximum armor. I believe that maybe armor upgrades should be removed, and all armors be set to 175% their current value. For fighters and bombers, at least.
Capital ships should keep their armor upgrades sacrificing cargo for Armor Values.
In the end, this would require little balancing, since the point is to make all fighters more potent compared to the bomber's one-hit-kill weapons and allow us FIGHTER PILOTS something to do. As it is, with the SN/MR/NT, the fighter pilot is a dying breed... I feel like I'm the only one left who flies a fighter anymore.
Edit;
All this talk about longer fights requiring "skill". Yes, they do require skill over luck. Its called mastering the few useful weapons in the game, the missile, the torpedo, the mini-razor, or the Supernova. Either you master these weapons, or you're doomed to fight enemies who have decided to master them. I'll admit, even I have fallen into mounting a Mini-Razor and missiles on my fighters, because without them I cannot deal enough damage to matter.
