Well don't compare Freelancer with RL, cause there's a lot of inconsistencies.
But of course, armor upgrades do make sense, and they are kinda essential for balance.
And btw, the fights really are not that long, except when it's experienced people fighting.
I like how the fights are long anyways, pronounces tactics more, and not being able to play for 4 hours is not a good trade for 5 minutes of combat fun.

Anyways, I myself am a VHF whore. Always been, always will be. Removing armor would make it an all around cap fest.
I mean, we -could- remove armor upgrades and decrease the damage of all weapons by 2.5:P

Might remove the cap ones only? Why does a cap with more armor than a fighter even need more armor?

Hahaha, remove cap armor upgrades? Well becouse then they just mount fighter upgrades... Upgrade i guess is something very nice to have when you hit a nuke mine, or a cannonball comes your way. Not to mention when a sunslyer blows up in your face. It offers you survivability, it pronounces skill not luck, and extendes your life in a combat area. How fun is a fight that lasts 5 seconds? Ends after the third joust? If you are looking for a kill very, if you are looking for combat, hardly. We could make Botts heal less hitpoints thou, that might be very welcome... halving their hitpoint heal, would bring a lot of intresting changes. Also in the future, when we crack the damn armor upgrades, they possibly could add to your ship's mass, and make your ship less maneuvrable, and then they would become a real strategic choice...

keep the armor upgrades, but lower the "cap 8" to a reasonable price.

people have been buying a 900 mil armor for a 15 mil gunship...makes little to no sense.

Put the thread back in the ground where it belongs.

Though I do like the idea of cap VIII being cheaper.

A way a lone a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay,
brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.

We made something quite diffrent in this department, but i really can't say what, :yahoo:and hopefuly someday upgrade multiplier will be linked to ship's agility, that day is still far as it needs public discussion...

I personaly see no problem with any of the armours as is, they're cool :cool:

(Mabey include power upgrades though:yahoo:)

But not get rid of armour ones:nono:

If it was linked to ship's agility, then any battleship with Cap. VIII would move only in a straight line.

But really, going from VII [3.5 multiplier] at 245mil to VIII [4.0 multiplier] 895mil is just unreasonable in not sensible. Maybe 500mil?

And mounting a 15 mill upgrade on a 2 mill ship does make sense? Not everyone mounts cap mk 8s on GBs, but everyone mounts mk 8 universals on fighters...

Kurosora, if it is unresonable then why do so many people buy cap8 and not just have many cap7's for the same money?

In the light of Offer/Demand it's very resonable, to price it very close to 1bil limit (that's the highest price of any sole item)....

Anyhow armor upgrades will be looked in to a bit more, for 4.86 with agility and such, but really that needs more public debate. And careful balancing that we don't have time for.

For exapmle cap 8 armor might kill strafing on a battlecruiser but a battleship would function with the same mass without as much as a 10% diffrence. becouse BC's have 800 mass and battleships 15000... so it will always be a problem, (or not)

Likewise LF's have 75 mass, while VHF's 150, if you give mk8 armor say 100 mass, that will greatly nerf the LF's agility, thus LF's will have to wear tinier armors, and be more vulnerable to damage then, if they intend to keep their good mass advantage over VHFs... so it requires a lot of balancing...
