Well maybe the Liberty ship was composed of british people from York? and they felt like the old colonists of America?
There was a mutiny on the slipper ship and the crew was overthrown by the York folks.
The York guys felt freedom again so they named the new found system New York to remind them of their home
in the Sol system... They also took the name Liberty for their "nation" as a symbol for their new gained freedom.

You see? not that hard:P

In the year 2037 the nations capital was moved th New York after the Canadians came back to finish what they started.
