Finaly! More people who agree with me! Yes it was me who has made like 5 posts about how worthless the guard systems are. Unfortuantly there are 2 sides of this. A pirate faction such as the Hogosha, would not be able to own a vanila system becuase what system would they be allowed to own? The only answere to that would if a Hogosha faction was allowed to buy a sigma systems. Only factions such as a house faction or corsairs or outcasts could have a vannila system.
OR here is a thing.
Have the faction be able to choose where their home system would be! Me and the Helghast, we really could have a system in Rheinland Liberty, or Brentonia because of teh Junkers influence in those area. Something like that would be good to make home systems alot more strategicaly valuable.

alright alright....
@QV that sounds like a cool idea. the problem with it is that igiss and the other admin's probably dont want to go thru the work of putting the system excatly where you want, if you get me drift...
A time proven technique of servers I have visited inthe past is by buying a base that the faction you are allied with owns from the server itself by paying the admins one straight fee to own it.
Few of the clan systems are dead-end right now. Gaian system is on the route between Bretonia and Tau. IMG, Farmers, Hogosha, GC, and Dragons systems are all connected and provide passage between Kusari and Tau. Illinois is on Liberty-Kusari route, Virginia between Texas and California. Lane Hacker, Unioner and Junker systems connected with Humboldt. Bundschuh system is between Rheinland and Sigma. Bounty Hunter system and Halle (Rheinland Police system) connect Rheinland with Omega-15. I may continue this list.
Molly, Red Hessian sysetms are dead-end, and Outcast/Corsair systems are also sort of dead end (connected to empty systems from the other side). But this might be changed.
Anyway, there are things that might be done to make those systems worth a look. Trade routes might be set up (not too close), valuable equipment added for sale. Next step is making guards neutral, but this will only affect new players. If I set it to -0,5, spoiling rep with NPC faction will make them hostile, which is sufficient if people are so afraid of guards :) but that's not what I would like to do, so I need more opinions on this.
Quote:For one, how can a police faction police its systems? How can SF police Bretonia when the only thing they can do is sit in the guard system. If what you said under the role playing part means they can do it for all Bretonia than okay. I'm slightly confused about that part. Would it also mean that AW can help defend in Omicron Theta, much like SF can for Bretonia and RM for Rheinland?
Yes you can. Thing is that if you encounter an enemy in Theta, you will fight him because of RP status, not because you set some kind of rules for this system.
Something more? Yes... well, make those systems worth looking at! Send me a layout as described in my first post. And have up to 3 bases in your system (no trade routes of course, that would be too much). Any bases. Even planets might be allowed as an exception.
Igiss, to make faction owned systems worth it, doing what your saying is also alright, but you need to have valuable routs running through them. The routs dont have to be ending in the guard systems but they need to be going through them.

This sounds really disappointing. What's the most profitable route right now? VIPs from Bretonia to Theta? Maybe all of our factions should establish their bases on that route?
Do you know a single server that allows to own vanilla systems? They all add systems for factions. Crossfire players rent them for real money. But I haven't heard of a single case when vanilla systems were rented, for real or in-game money.
What do you mean by valuable routes? You want to tax all traders on the server? To make this not only RP (which you can do in any system as pirates) but a law? This is insanity, or I don't understand you at all...
To make the guard systems worth a look don't need a valuable trade route but could make them a short cut. Keep the guard rep fairly hard to obtain that way traders will have to choose between the longer original route and the shorter route (undoubtedly some trade route would be shortened in the process). Also, consider capships with train cruise disruptors in the guard system as well for this purpose.

Agreed, Igiss. If a faction is too lazy to get off their butts and fly one or two systems over to harrass a trade lane, then they probably deserve to be poor and starving.
I don't think the point of owning a system is to make it a "hub" of activity. It's to have a peaceful and safe place to hole up when needed. No trade routes? So what? No trade or population systems nearby? Then maybe you chose the wrong system to own.
Seems to be a lot of personal opinions and whining regarding this issue.. getting a bit tired of it, as I am sure you are. You are responsible for the welfare of the whole Disco community, not for granting every whim and wild "hare" that comes down the road.
I compliment your patience and moderation with some of this crap.
I think i like firebird's idea. Seems like a compromise and would make us shift our butts out of the system to get them.
Heres an idea!
Make the routes go in a circle, instead of makeing separate ones going past separate faction systems. So you go past one, then a different one, in a route around the map ending up at the place where you started again. Seems ok too me but im not to keen on buying a system away from our operations and/or people.
my thoughts.
Disregard them if you want too, i dont fancy pissing off mal or you, Igiss.
